We are ditching this AppleTV crap and going back to Roku. I have never owned a Roku "stick" and have always just had Roku TV's. Is there any difference in the feel of a stick and a TV with the built in platform? TIA.

I've got TVs with Roku sticks and TVs with the Roku platform. They have all worked the same except, I just got a new TV with Roku built in and it's a lot faster than all of my other TVs/sticks. Apps load almost instantly verses a few seconds. None of my Roku sticks are new, so maybe the new ones load really fast too, I don't know.

Thanks. That was more helpful than you know.

Any reason you are leaving Apple TV?

The remote alone is enough, but it is just a clunky platform imho.

Don't buy the lowest end model. Get the higher end sticks or even the Roku Ultra. They are fine imo but the $30 one is pretty laggy and slow.

Walmart version of Roku ultra is the best value.

Box is faster, generally. Menus are snappier, things load a little faster.
I always bought their top-end player for Ethernet + usb playback. Neither of those may be necessary features for you.

Roku sells a plastic holder that 3m tapes to the back of the TV for the roku ultras if you don't want to look at the thing.

I've been thinking about trying Roku. Been using just the Samsung TV apps and Hulu just buffers all the time. Don't see that with netflix or peacock, etc.
I want to go with a wired connection though, as I have one to the back of the TV, so that would be Roku Ultra, yes?

Yes. There is a regular ultra and an ultra LT that is only available at Walmart at a lower price. The difference is the Walmart version doesn't do USB, Bluetooth, or remote finder. Both have Ethernet connection and same processing power.
The Walmart one regularly goes on sale for$30.

I have both Roku TVs and two different models of the Roku external devices.
The biggest problem I have is that you cannot plug your Roku device into your television for USB power, without slowing down the startup by about half a minute.
When you power down the TV, it does not maintain a trickle to the Roku device through the USB port. It shuts it down completely.
You could get around this by plugging the Roku into a wall outlet separately, but then you have to deal with more cables running to the back of your television

i'm going to have to test this because i could swear i have a roku on a TV plugged into usb and it launches instantaneously.
Maybe it depends on the TV model as to whether the USB is 'hot' when the TV is off. Mine leaves it on because i've had an LED lightstrip going behind the TV before and it stayed on when the tv was off.
ETA just looked at my FRAME TV and the USB ports are on the ONE CONNECT box which is always on so that's not a good test.

Ignore Hank. He doesn't realize most TVs have a setting to keep USB powered on or off when tv is off.

I missed that and stand corrected.

Apple TV interface with Hulu sucks balls.
Roku and Firestick are much better.
You won't regret swapping.

Older TVs did have an issue where the USB ports did not supply enough power for streaming sticks for high intensity operations (like waking, launching an app, etc.) There were inline batteries that you could use to act as a cap to supply more power during a spike, but they only worked so so at best. Most new TV USB outputs put out enough power that this is no longer a concern.
ETA
I think this is where his concern is coming from
