Quickbooks Enterprise for Contractors is a SCAM

We upgraded to a new Quickbooks. Had an outdated version. Went online to purchase the Enterprise Edition for Contractors. I think it cost $3,200 and some change.
We use the desktop version by the way
Installed it for 11 users. Spent an entire Saturday upgrading our server, doing several backups, installing on all of the desktops, etc. Everything was ready to roll for Monday.
Anyways, long story short, they just charged our company another $3,200. WTF?
So we called Quickbooks and they informed us that Quickbooks is now a Subscription base where we now have to pay $3,200/year OR we can pay monthly at $266.00/month.
Had I known this, noway in hell would we have upgraded to this horse shite. We have never had to pay for Quickbooks in the past because we actually bought the desktop version of Quickbooks.
Holy shite, how misleading is this?? In 5 yeas down the road we are going to spend $16,000 for fricking Quickbooks + the actual copy that we bought for $3,200?
That's some grade A bullshite right there.

We really didn't need to upgrade. I'm pretty pissed about it

yes i am a very small business and i only need basic bookkeeping. literally NO reason to upgrade
if i have to go to something like that, i'm just paying a bookkeeper

How could you NOT know it was subscription based? I mean, seriously?

Most software is going to s ubscription basis. AutoCAD is there and I refuse to upgrade.

Their website clearly says it is a subscription

Are there any free book keeping software for small businesses? Maybe a plug-in for G Suite / Google Sheets?

This. From an IT budgeting standpoint, I despise this. From and IT security standpoint it ‘helps’. Too many people refuse to regularly update software and it leaves vulnerabilities wide open for hackers and malware. Don’t get me wrong, the main reason the software companies do this is added revenue but it’s also easier for them to keep everyone on the same versions and software be up to date and patched. It’s hard to keep providing updates for software that 10 years old especially bc someone is too cheap to upgrade.

Thankfully with subscriptions too it means included support for problems.
Our deskside guys love that

Why? It keeps your budget more consistent.

Did you buy it directly from Intuit or did you go through a 3rd party vendor?

With 11 users you won't find better pricing on any other software. You can easily spend more than that. I am a QB Pro Advisor and I can't see how you even got that price for that number of users. I just had someone pay over $4000 for 6 users on the Platinum level (3 levels - contractor version available in all 3). With QuickBooks anything over 5 users is Enterprise - no way around it.
One thing is that this does give you free support and software upgrades during the subscription time.
This is the way that software companies are moving with sales. It makes them more money. In some ways it can help the consumer with free upgrades and sometimes free support.

The days of free software are gone. As a stock holder of companies I love it, as a consumer I'm not a fan.

Yeah, they are consistently billing you.

You never really own the software, you are literally forced to renting it forever.

... you'll own it!

If QuickBooks sub prices have you crying, wait until you invest in a real accounting system. I'll see your $3200 QuickBooks sub and raise it to $30,000 per year for SAGE.

We didn't purchase through their website. I think we got it through office max or someone like that

They only sell up to a 5 user. If that was the case you could go to Premier. You wouldn't have to upgrade UNLESS you are adding on payroll (a yearly subscription). That requires you to upgrade every 3 years. If not you could keep it forever. Unless there was other parts you needed like enhanced inventory or enhanced pricing I can't see why you changed. If you are going to have over 5 users in the software at the same time you must have Enterprise for the correct number of users.
