Protip: you can usually click "other sellers" option on Amazon and find the item for the same price and free shipping without the tax

I also agree that Amazon is the instigator and is mostly at fault.
Is this about competing products or money/app sales commission like it was with Apple? This is the only leverage they have on Google so I can kind of understand going to this extreme as a negotiating tactic.

If you're willing to wait more than 2 days. Amazon has us trained to think anything less than 2 day delivery is beneath us.

Agree it's petty both ways, and I also agree that Amazon is the instigator and is mostly at fault. It's not a good look for Amazon to sell everything under the sun except for products from Google. Amazon owns tons of brands that sell everything from food to clothes to electronics, but they don't pull products from other brands that compete with them.
This may be incorrect. Some people say that the first event was Google not allowing Google Maps and something else on Amazon tablets. Could be wrong, but before blaming someone we should all get the facts.
This is super annoying though because what do you do? Especially if you've bought into one ecosystem or another. I have a Show.....that controls Lutron's, a Nest, Wemos, etc. can't just stop using it.

quote:I'm not sure what you're referring to with Apple, but the way I understand it is this: Amazon recognizes the potential of smart home devices, particularly how they can drive sales of other stuff through Amazon. If you have an Echo, you will be more likely to buy from Amazon than if you have Google Home. If you have a FireTV, you will be more likely to subscribe to Prime and buy other digital products from Amazon than if you have a Chromecast (though I'm not sure why they have no problem selling Rokus).

The bottom line is, I don't think it's about just shutting down competing products from Google. It's about creating a walled garden for EVERYTHING we buy like Apple has done with their products. If Amazon can integrate itself into all of our devices/lives, that will generate enormous growth for Amazon's core business of selling everything else to us.

Sometimes. And sometimes it is still prime shipping because it's processed by Amazon.
But it's also more painful if you have to return something and there is a reasonable chance it won't be promptly dispatched like it would through Amazon processing.

quote:The thing about Amazon tablets is they do run Android (produced by Google), but they have forked and heavily customized it. They don't even put Google's Play Store on them, they have created their own app store. So considering the OS is so heavily modified, and Amazon controls the app store, Google has no way to know whether users are getting a quality experience. I don't blame them at all for not allowing their apps on FireOS.

I have long been a supporter of open source, open platforms, and open standards. Vendor lock-in is a bitch, and it always results in higher costs for consumers. Not only do we get locked in to ecosystems, but companies either shut down or end support for cloud services that their "smart" devices rely on, then we have to start over with a new system.
If anything positive comes of this, it will be that we as consumers start demanding more open systems and products that don't rely on the whims and pissing matches between companies.

What's ridiculous is Amazon refuses to sell Google Home and their products but will still sell Roku devices. Why are they targeting google specifically?

I always thought this was dumb.
Aside from Confederate flags I'm not sure Amazon censors any other products.
Eta they certainly have a rich and vibrant selection of sex toys

This is terrible. Amazon is going to hear lots of complaints about no longer having YouTube

I have YouTube Installed in kodi and hoping that's a work around.

Just use the native YouTube app built into your smart TV or buy a $15 Chromecast on Craigslist
