Thinking about going from my nexus 7 to the 9.
Anyone have one?

I was just looking online at the 9 yesterday and it looks nice, and like you I already have a 7.
I think I'm going to stick with the 7. I already have a SP3 as my main tablet and I love the portability of the 7. It fits in my inside coat pocket if I go to dinner with a client and need access to files or fits in the back pocket of my jeans if I need access in the field.
To each his own though.

As a current Nexus 9 owner, I'd say wait to see if the 5.1 update fixes lag /app closure issues.

i picked up an OLD 8GB N7 for next to nothing last week and was about to throw the thing out the window until i finally put CYANOGEN KITKAT on it.
i know how to root & optimize apps but lollipop was a laggy piece of shite making me think the N7 was simply a piece of trash.
- WIFI was slow as shite..slower than shite
- chrome was lagging so bad it was inoperable
- charging simply did not happen. it was a negative ratio burning more juice than it could suck off the wall plug
- battery life was about 3 hours
- tablet was utterly unusable.
i tried several roms and found the good old CYAN 11 (or is it 10?) is buttery smooth and now i'm actually able to use it and i love it! i never had a tablet before (other than occasionally using the SO's ipad which i hated)

I have a 6 and a 10, and I love both of them.

my Nexus 7 (2013) was great. The Nexus 9 was amazing for like the first 2 weeks and then it became laggy as all hell.

Same here, the 10 still runs like a champ too. Still use it every day for any and everything.

I have the 9 and haven't had any issues with it. The main question you've got to ask yourself is if the 9 inch form factor is right for your needs.

I have the 9 but haven't noticed lag.
I like mine at least as much as any iPad I've had, and I like the size a lot.
Honestly, I just continue to find it generally less convenient to use a tablet over my MBP for 90% of things.

I picked one up to replace my aging Nexus 10. It's a substantial upgrade in terms of speed IMO. I only use mine for web browsing/reading, though. I use my Surface for work.

Has anyone rooted it and put a rom on it?
If so, did it improve the lag in the tablet?

I love mine. It handles everything I throw at it. My biggest problem is that I feel the build quality isnt that great, def not the build quality of a $399 tablet. I would never give it up though- great screen, great processor, stock lollipop.

Custom Roms almost always run smoother than stock. Just go to the XDA forums and follow the discussion.
Actually it's super easy to install cyanagen for a test run. You don't have to be rooted or unlocked. Just follow the steps on their website.
Good way to try a custom ROM.
FYI cyan is what I'm using on my n7 which was unusable with lollipop. I'm using 444 KitKat cyan however because it's stable and fast and lag disappeared. The lag on the n7 with lollipop was unbearable. Horrible. I don't think lollipop is ready for tablets yet but you might try the cyan lollipop ROM and see if it's smoother than stock.
Eta here. It's impossible to mess up:
how to install cyanogen
Eta2 Google apps are not included so you'll have to grab gmail etc from the play store after installing cyan.
Eta3 cyan includes a performance setting where you can disable some of the transitions etc and that also helped. Honestly I can't tell a bit of difference visually with them off. I need the n7 to be reliable and responsive and it is now.
It's been a godsend doing walkthroughs on the house and making notes and measurements.

Ever since I had my n7 i had a custom ROM installed on it, but when the official lollipop came out I flashed the factory rom back on it.
What I might end up doing is re rooting it and flash CM 12 on it and sell it on eBay.
Take that money with a little I have saved and get a n9.

I have had the Nexus 4, 5, and I currently use the 6. I bought the 9 excitedly and just something about it didn't feel $399...Build quality wasn't the best. Best Buy had the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 for $199 and I absolutely love it. GREAT Build quality and is ultra fax...Screen is amazing. I am NOT a samsung fan at all, but I LOVE this tablet.

I ended up with a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 after a long search. The expandable memory and display won me over. I was not very impressed with the Nexus 9 in comparison. Ended up costing 50 cheaper than the 9 too.
