Just got an email offer for the lifetime pass for $75. Although I've never felt the need for it I went ahead and got it. Here's the LINK that was in my email, but says it can only be used once. The promo code is YDKPJ1YH

That's specific to your account. I passed on my offer because I didn't feel like I needed it at the time. Was kicking myself a few months later and didn't get another discounted opportunity for over a year.

It took me forever to get one of those emails for some dam reason. My family has loved being able to watch watch they want when they want!

I've got one. I also pulled the trigger on a lifetime pass at that price maybe a year ago. I don't use the pass features that much but it is nice. With Jellyfin you can get most of those features out of the box so it's becoming a bit less relevant, but it still has a bit of maturing to do. At some point I'll probably migrate to that but I'm kind of entrenched with plex for now.

I got that email and passed on it then a while later was kicking myself. I upgraded at the full price and still felt it was worth it though.

Switch to Emby and not deal with Plex's ads and ignoring their users.

I never see ads. Does Plex have ads?

You just need to look at the features and see if it's something you would use. Free Plex has more than met my needs, but if I cared about local OTA channels it'd probably be well worth it for the OTA DVR functionality.

Plex has a long history of completely ignoring requests from it's long time users and instead forcing crap on their platform like Tidal and movie channels no one wants. It's well documented.

Plus Emby has 100% native support for IPTV and doesn't require a messy solution to get it to work like plex.

Lifetime is just a good deal on Plex Pass, $75 one time vs. $5 a month IIRC. Plex Pass mainly gives you

- Access to the mobile apps (I think it's a $5 app purchase if you buy it per device without Plex Pass)
- OTA DVR if you have an antenna and tuner hooked up to your PC.

If you have no need for either of those benefits, Plex Pass probably doesn't give you much.

this isn't true anymore. the app is free now.

According to their website it's free with some pretty significant restrictions:

quote:

Until the mobile app is unlocked (through an in-app purchase or a Plex Pass subscription), video and music streamed from a Plex Media Server has a 1 minute limit, and photos will be watermarked.

that must be new because i didnt have a plex subscription for years and had the plex app on a zillion different devices (including friends) and nobody ever complained about a video stopping after 1 minute.

I use to be the biggest Plex fan..

However, their updates have been atrocious with numerous issues. And their support is complete and utter trash. They truly don't even care any more.

Now their TV tuner system won't act properly. This is a huge deal for me.

I am so sick of it. I am heavily considering emby.. but I am the one who got all my friends to sign onto Plex.. and I have 100 users sharing.
