Wachu talkin bout, Willis?
I bought the 3 month Apple TV deal and and prior to the first billing cycle 3 months later I called Cox to see if they would give me the same deal on an expiring 12 month deal. The discount they gave me was 210 channels, DVR and HBO for $50. They said yes no problem. The initial 3 months DTVN deal was about to expire and I pulled my CC and let it.
Next bill I get last week was $80 higher, they lied to me. I called and they gave some minor discount.
Like you, I had the 100+ channels and free HBO for a year for $35, wish I would have waited another month.

Just started messing around with Vue. The website looks great, nice interface, I like the Guide feature. But the Roku looks like a really stripped down version. My main TV would run off of the Roku, so I'm not sure how much I like this option.
Does the PS4 have a better interface, more like the website? My PS4 is upstairs in the loft, but I really don't plan to move it, it's where I send my kids when I need to get away from them for a bit.

Vue on the PS4 is excellent. You will get the 'cable like' guide feature only on PS3/PS4. My dad is also now on Vue after he figured how much money he could save by cutting the cord. He was using a Roku to stream Vue and hated the interface after seeing mine. He ordered a PS4 last night.
My only problem with streaming live TV now is Cox has a 1 TB data cap. I hope that doesn't cause issues in the future.

Man, I'll have some decisions to make. I have an Xbox One in the living room, and a PS4 in the loft. I'd prefer it like that but I may have to switch em to have the PS4 and the solid interface downstairs in the living room where we do our primary TV viewing.
I'd prefer to keep everything like I have it now with Direct TV set up directly through my XBOx, but the savings of around $75/month may be too much to pass up.

Fire TV also has the guide.

My sister uses Fire stick and doesn't have the guide feature like the PS4. Are we talking about the same thing?

hey Tablo users, can you schedule a series to record without paying the monthly service for their guide?
Mine is coming in today and will call Cox and tell them to take a hike.

No. This is only available with the monthly subscription. However, you can still record, you just have to manually select the show when it pops up in the guide.

You already have the hard drive for hookup? That was one mistake I made not having the proper one and it was having freezing issues.

I'm still having issues with DirecTV Now buffering, channels not showing up on the guide, the app closing randomly etc on Fire TV box. Couple that with no Roku app in sight and I've decided to cancel and go back to Vue when my next billing month ends.
We will just use someones login for Nickelodeon for the kids, but Vue was flawless when we had it. Hate the interface on ROKU, but we have a FireTV on the main TV we watch...

The Vue app for FireTV just got an update yesterday that gives it all the features of the PS4 version. The guide is the same now and the quick menu was added.

quote:It's probably not a wifi issue. I think the "latency" you mention is the 10 second buffer that it does.
I suspect their wifi is not great so they have too much latency in the live feed and they use a separate antenna for live OTA.
It buffers for about 10 seconds when you first tune a channel. This is due to the way it stores and transcodes the signal in order to support so many devices. I don't know if it's an actual technical limitation that can't be improved, or if it's a design choice by going with 10 second video chunks instead of shorter segments. I just know that when you click a channel, you're going to stare at a loading screen for 10 seconds. Now, once you start watching a channel the Tablo keeps it tuned in, so you can switch between two channels (or more if you have the 4 tuner Tablo) and it changes quickly. The same is also true if it is already recording a show on a channel.
This isn't a big deal for me, because usually when I'm watching something live (sports or something), I just want to watch that show and I won't be channel-surfing.
The only thing that kind of bothers me is the Tablo app (at least the Roku one) doesn't overlay the guide over the video. When I pull up the guide it stops whatever I'm watching. I'm hoping for an app update that changes this.

Same for Apple Tv and this drives me up the wall. It cant be that hard to pull the guide in front of the pic.

I found an old thread from December in the Tablo Community on this topic and bumped it. Ill post up if anyone from Tablo responds with some info.
