The only thing holding me back thus far is I love having Project Fi for my wife and I, our monthly bills are so cheap.
i'll say one thing about project fi, the customer service has been pretty clutch for me. have called in to discuss misc problems since getting on Fi, and they've been super helpful at identifying the problem and troubleshooting.

maybe that's a small thing for others, but it beats having to call in to some att/sprint/vzw frick that can't understand shite.

Just got rid of my iPhone 5 for the 6s+. It still worked just fine but the battery was becoming an issue.

The one big upside to Apple for me is receiving the updates. No matter which carrier you have, Apple rolls out the update to everyone.

With Android you have to wait for the carrier to push to your phone. I had bad experiences with that a while back when I flirted with Android for a few months.

That is why most here recommend Nexus/Pixel phones.

Just curious, how is that statement false? My os updates come from at&t and take forever.

I didn't get marshmallow until July

CAD is probably going to go on about how you can root the device and put whatever version of Android that you want.

Most people don't want to do that.

Well explain it then. I kno that all android devices don't receive updates at once.

nexus devices get them up front.

nexus device=android update up front
iPhone = IOS update up front

say for instance apple started letting samsung make phones on the iOS platform. you'd have the same issue.

i have tmobile and i have always bought nexus devices which are pure android and get the latest google updates right away.

i'd rather bamboo splinters under my fingernails than buy an android phone with carrier-bloatware.

i forget people still buy phones that the carriers mutilate.

you know what phones carriers don't "mutilate?" iphones

the iphone hate on here is ridiculous. i get it. you can do a lot of power-user stuff on android you can't on iphone. the thing is, apparently tons of people have no desire to download a new app for every basic function, root their device, screw with app launchers, etc. just because you are into that sort of thing doesn't make everyone else an idiot.

fwiw, i like the nexus phones and i'm sure i'd be happy if i switched. at this point, i'm very satisfied with my iphone (including apple's customer service) and have no reason to switch to android.

Anyone used the last gen Nexus phones on Verizon? Heard they were a pain to get Verizon to activate them and they don't support them at all. Apparently they may actually sell the Pixels and they will be locked down and has to go through the bloatware/Verizon approval process for OS updates if you buy through Verizon. Is Apple really the only company to successfully tell Verizon to shove it and win?

no one forces you to do these things on android. it's simply an option.

i spent years doing this shite..card-carrying XDA member since it was just modd-ing windows phones (pre iphone v1).

i hung up my mod hat after the nexus line came out.

there's no need. i don't have time for fancy man stuff.

vanilla android (with a little root tickle so i can run adaway) and away we go!

Wow, only one Windows phone post in this entire thread? I love my Windows phone (HTC M8) running Windows 10. It uses Skype for messaging/video, and OneDrive (Window's Cloud) is flawless. I mean it's an actual folder on every one of my Windows 10 computers that I can access. The only downside is apps. Now I may be making the switch, unless a new manufacturer steps into the Windows game. I'm not a fan of the Lumias and I'm skeptical about all things HP. Plus I expect the Surface Phones to cost at least $1k based on the projected specs.

So still for me. My Windows phone is a good reason not to switch to Android.

Android is totally usable without any of those things you've mentioned. You don't NEED to do any of those things to enjoy an Android device. I don't have my Nexus 6 rooted.. I do use a different launcher and texting app, but most everything else is stock.

I guess since no one else has said they stay with iPhone because of iMessage that means I'm dumb for having that reason??

I tried a galaxy s6 for a couple of days. The messaging was the biggest thing.

I loved that it remembered my email address so I never had to type it. Does iPhone do that for other people and just not for me?
