My iphone took a quick dunk into pool water. It was easily under for less than 5 seconds at about 2.5 feet. I had a tech look at it because phone wont come on, unfortunately the tech said it is not worth fixing and of course i didn't have insurance. So now i have to pay for a new one. Any suggestions?

That's what I purchased for my new phone. I prob should have thrown my Iphone X in some rice right after it happened.

Same, my XS died from a 1.4 second tip in the water. Iphone13pro is very nice, but i wish i didn't have to drop a grand right before the new models come out.

What was the damage?

I’ve dunked my iPhone11 a few times and it hasn’t been an issue. Only problem I’ve had after was that it detected water in the charging port, so it wouldn’t charge. Had to use a wireless charger until it dried out.

The technician determined it was liquid damage. There was moisture in the camera and they could not get the screen to come on.

That's why I try to save previous phones. Use them as a stop gap in scenarios like this.

The iPhone X came out in 2017. I'm not saying you should expect the water resistance to fail on a 5 year old phone, but you shouldn't exactly be surprised either.

Ask friends and family if they have an old one sitting in a drawer somewhere that they can let you use. The iPhone 14 is coming out in a month or 2, so if you can wait you'll be able to get a year more recent phone for the same money than if you bought one today, whether we're talking new or used.

Have you drop your phone before? Maybe compromised the integrity prior. Waterproofing is based on the pristine conditions of the product. iPhone X is like 5-6 years old now.

I dropped a iphone 7 plus in the ocean in mexico about 4 years ago. It was down there about 45 seconds or so. Got it out and started using it immediately to check and it worked fine.

I got another year out of it with no problems. Traded it without issue.

I’ve lost two iPhones to water damage. Both because of just a bit of pool water splash. Ridiculous.

And I routinely paddled whitewater with an old 7 that never leaked.

Always kept in a rubberized shockproof non-waterproof case... but with a new battery not a chance.

Good point, but yeah I've dropped it multiple times during the course of owning it. It has always been in a drop resistance Otter Box case. It just kinda sucks hearing stories of ppl having their phone underwater for multiple minutes-hours. Mine was under for no more than 5 seconds and was ruined.

When I’ve paddled I’ve used waterproof bags. But just hanging around a pool - really didn’t think that would be needed. But I have finally learned my lesson. Don’t set the phone on the coping.

How long has it been? I've had stuff (not iPhone) dry out and start working again after getting wet.
