Google owns Waze and integrates most of the functionality into Maps.
I wouldn't say it integrates most of the functionality.

The most important functionality is the crowd sourcing of real-time data that Maps is able to integrate. This improves the routing which is the primary reason for the technology.
What Waze functionality is your favorite? Police notification is the main one not in Maps that I am familiar with.

its delayed resulting in SIGNIFICANT problems. Maps gets periodic updates from waze but its not real-time like waze, there's a delay. when a major wreck happens in front of you, those 2-3 minutes are critical; waze tells you instantly and you can get off the road before you're in gridlock.

- objects on the road - saved me a few times as i was able to slow down and cars in front of me were veering left/right at the last second because they were oblivious to a ladder in the road until they were right on top of it.
- police (nuff said)
- ability to read comments on accidents, police, etc to gain a better perspective.
for instance, recently traffic was backed up for MILES near my house. We were having a birthday party and the parents couldn't get back to our house because they were stick in gridlock. I opened waze and scrolled to the epicenter and people sitting there stuck were commenting the police had shut the road down because of a jumper on the natchez trace bridge. they were then able to make the decision to turn-around and take a different route rather than just sitting there.
you wont get that from google maps.

I fee like this thread is a masquerade for a Motion Industries ad.

So you thinking Google is batch processing updates from Waze? That seems quite inefficient when the value of Maps is real-time mapping. I don't think there is a way to prove the true integration or lack there of.

i'm sure they're working on it, but i open both many times in the afternoon and google is always behind. i can't tell you exactly how much, but its enough to miss major events, particularly if you're already on the interestate going 70. you can go 3 miles in 2 minutes so imagine how screwed you are if the delay is 5-6 minutes for a major problem up ahead?

I also get neighborhood frustrations, as we get people from the adjacent county cutting through my hood every day, backing up traffic and whatnot. I get it, they're looking to shorten their commute, but it's definitely annoying.
Houston began to put concrete pilings on neighborhood streets (creating de-facto dead ends) limiting the number of entrances and exits a neighbor has. This means less thru traffic. It also means less options for people who live there. I think that is a good solution. You have to take the good with the bad.

Bing Maps is basically like Google Maps was before they fricked it all up.
Wanna see a 1/4 page sidebar of what you searched for? It's there. Wanna see a full screen map? Just hit one arrow and everything stays like it was. Want your search info to pop back out? Hit the arrow again.
People go to Maps to look at a map. If they want information, they'd do a normal search. Such a simple concept that some people fail to comprehend.
Eta: FYI, if I hit the "X" to see a full screen map, my way point disappears. Completely useless
Eta #2: I'd bet the guys at Motion Industries were eyeing down every mf'er that came in today

So literally just like Google maps

See that arrow?

According to your screenshot, you did a normal search. If you wanted just the map functionality, actually go to google maps. Google Maps doesn't have the google search logo with it. Just click the maps button on google, even after you've already searched for something.
Somehow I'm not getting the same issue either.

why everyone hasn't adopted Waze already, I will never understand
I used it when it was flooded and it had areas where it says it was flooded, but comments would say it wasn't. So basically you have people looking at their phone to avoid traffic. Gee, that's safe.

Agreed.
The screen is too cluttered. Rarely do updates improve an app.

Also waze is the best thing out there.
I use Google maps and click on the "traffic" feature. It uses information from Waze and displays it on a real map.

It went from a map that displayed addresses and street view to this horse shite. I can barely see wtf I am looking at. I go to maps because I want to see a mother fricking map.

This 100%. Waze is awful.
Also, the way it turns our orientation around is awful. you cant zoom out as well and see whats ahead in terms of accidents, etc.

Tried to use Waze this weekend in New Orleans and it was a disaster. Changed to Google Maps and no issues.

You are right. Concepts like this start out clean and functional.
Then developers have to justify their existence by adding features (Look what I did!), which eventually ruins the product through bloat.
Basically what's happening with Google maps. It keeps bringing up features that are completely unnecessary. It's especially annoying if you need to do it while on the road. Then it also seems to often to select odd routes that screw up the time and don't change until you're right up on a turn.
