Probably the VP9 codec, same reason ATV doesn't do YouTube in 4K. Just a guess though.
I was wondering this at first, but since they are still offering it in 4K SDR to Apple TV 4Ks they have to be compressing in HEVC to keep internet speed requirement down to same level as other system requirements.
I was kind of thinking the Roku and Amazon must be paying for part of this and maybe using a different profile for HDR10 or one that fox hasn't built into its Apple TV 4K app yet. Already left out " UHD" 4K with Apple TV part even though for consumers it's the same thing but having 4K UHD listed for Roku and Amazon looked more Official and the ultimate 4K experience while Apple just gets 4K (4K is actually more pro but for consumers it will come across as Apple's 4K not equaling the others "4K UHD").
The device, the tv, the Internet speed connect, and the app being used have to support it; and fox sports controls their apps.
Maybe testing HDR10+ or dynamic version of HDR10 which Amazon has been behind, or these 2 are just paying some money to get better stream with HDR and Fox pushing this in their releases on stream.

This also be available in 4K HDR on Directv channel 105
LINK
This football season, the 4K offerings on Directv have finally started to take off. There is a significant difference.
Unfortunately on Monday for the National Chanpionship game, ESPN was only offering the Sky cam and sideline pass view in 4K

yeah I have read where we might be more than a few years away from widely adopted ATSC 3.0 due to exactly the reasons you mention.
Baton Rouge should be a place where channel sharing could be a market where it shouldn't be that hard.
WVLA and WGMB are owned by the same company. Now, it is the only instance where one owner owns 2 full-power stations.
WAFB also owns WBXH, but it is low power.
WBRZ is in the same boat as it owns WBTR which is also low power.
As far as the New Orleans market, there are only 2 full power duopolies with WGNO and WNOL, and WWL and WUPL sharing owners. Also, WUPL/WWL also shares a low power station that repeats WUPL. As far as the rest, each station doesn't have a low power or second full power station in the market. So it will depend on if Gray and Hearst, and Paxson can share resources get ATSC 3.0 launched.
I do believe there are a few other independent low power stations in New Orleans. Some are home shopping channels. One is actually pretty unique as it is a barker channel for New Orleans tourism. ATSC 3.0 would probably help them as ATSC 3.0 has a more robust mobile signal and you can have interactive features tied in with smartphones.
The only thing with add ATSC 3.0 to mobile devices is it that could come down to patents and if they can be implemented if the carriers allow. I remember the fight a few years back with radio stations trying to egg providers to enable or add FM radio tuners to smartphones. Why would providers do that when they can just use up all their data using internet streaming so they can charge their customers more. You might get the same push back unless the FCC gets involved.

The Thursday night football games have looked great in 4K on Apple TV, albeit without her support, but I thought the fox playoff baseball games they showed looked like shite. Hopefully the super bowllooks like Thursday night football. Either way I’m glad they are starting to do this.

Wow, Roku is pulling the Fox apps from their platform. This is legit and confirmed on reddit, avsforum etc. Fox even updated their Super Bowl website and there is no reference to Roku anymore. How does Roku/Fox let this happen a couple days before the Super Bowl...
I just ordered a Firestick 4k and will have one on standby if this isn't resolved by Sunday.

It was dumb as frig and was literally just a marketing gimmick. Hopefully fox will have the actual game broadcast in 4k.

I read elsewhere it's because Fox uses Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) for HDR on broadcasts. Easier for broadcasters and doesn't use metadata.
HDR TVs needed a firmware update to support. Not sure why Apple hasn't offered Apple TV 4K (If technical issue or Apple decision) especially since this is how Fox has broadcast HDR sports in past.

It will be HLG on satellite and cable where available. Streaming using Fox apps will be HDR10.
I have no idea why ATV isn't supporting HDR in any form. Maybe Fox never got around to implementing it in their app.

Super Bowl is HDR10 for the first time on streaming services, converting HLG real time unlike in all prior events.
I'm still guessing it's due to the VP9 codec used for HLG HDR that Apple doesn't support (yet?).

Where did you find this? All I can find is Fox saying it will be HLG for HDR format.

Straight from their Super Bowl page:

Q: What is required to stream the Super Bowl in 4K Ultra HD with HDR?
You will need a supported living room device:
Amazon FireTV 4K
Additionally, you will need a 4K TV with HDR10 support, a compatible HDMI cable, and a high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps or higher.

The HDR really looks great. Colors pop so much more, comparing it to the DirecTV feed then switching over to the Roku and wow.

Just loaded it on my amazon 4k device and it looks no different really must be doing something wrong. Have the TV set to 4K resolution when possible
