For Those Of You That Switched from Satellite TV to a Streaming TV Service...Any Regrets?

Here within the next few months, I'll have fiber internet at the house and Starlink at deer camp. I've been with Dish Network for all of these years because I can mount a dish at both locations, but only pay the one monthly service charge.
One thing that I do like about a service like YouTube TV is the ease of watching TV at any location throughout the house, back patio, shop. etc. I figured as long as I have a good mesh internet router configuration, that watching YouTube TV at any location will be a breeze.
With Dish, I have to install and point the dish, run a wire from the dish to a splitter, and then run wires to each receiver. That's a huge pain in the arse vs. just connecting wirelessly to a Roku in order to watch YouTube TV.
Anyway, what are y'all's thoughts?

Not one regret
Dvr is great
Daughter has 5g ipad, good for long trips. Can watch all her shows.
Much cheaper than direct TV
Pretty good picture too

Switched 3 years ago. Wish I would have done it sooner.
Can watch anywhere I want on any device. especially at work.
I don’t have any data caps so I’m not sure how much data I use per month.

I had DIRECTV at my old house now at my new house we stream everything and I love it. So much more to watch and so much more convenient. With streaming you can watch something on one TV and pick it up on another with no problem

Nope. Unlimited DVR, can watch anywhere you go, no ‘extra’ rental fees.
Data limit is the only concern, but we have come close only once.

I am about to make the switch next week. Deciding on which service to go with. Hulu or YouTube TV. I’m close to deciding YouTube TV. What say you?

100% YouTube TV.
Unlimited DVR, 4K option if you want, customizable guide, Easy layout and search function.
You can try both for free if you want.

I switched and also love it. But I’ll offer the negatives just for a counter evaluation.
- Requires a good internet connection to use. You mention Starlink and are comparing to a Dish service, so it should be similar in terms of outages and weather.
- Ease of access. It requires another device to access, such as Roku or FireTV. It can also be difficult for non-tech-savvy users to get used to using it. It’s much better than before though, and the learning curve is drastically reduced.
- Subject to channel agreements. Satellite has similar concerns, but streaming services and availability of other services on that service can be frustrating. Contract agreements, Google vs Apple, Roku vs whoever, etc. It usually not a problem, but when it is it can be very frustrating.
- Some will limit # of streams or restrict channels to “home” location only. This will depend on which service and package you select.
- Data usage. If you are limited, this can add up quickly.

How do you watch up to date local channels?

Some valid points.
When I first signed up for YouTubeTV it was $49 something now it is $65.
It can be a hassle installing it first time l, mostly with userid and password / authorization of devices. Also agree about potential licensing disagreements but most get resolved
But cost of Roku or fire stick is not much and is one time
I have no data caps and use it on five different devices. Re speed, mine is less than 45 Mbps. You’d still save 50-70 a month over DirecTV or Dish
The recording is easy - set it and forget it

I have YouTube TV and like it. I had Directv Now before and found out they don't let you watch from multiple locations... YTTV does.
YTTV also has way more sports channels.

YouTube TV has all four major local channels.

If his hunting camp is far away, how does that work? And starlink doesn't have a local ip, it shows the base station that can be in Dallas, Atlanta, etc.

I'd like some clarification on that question also. My home and deer camp is in the Little Rock local market, but you're correct in that the Starlink IP may ping or identify a different local market.

I have Hulu, I won't for long. I've had them for years but they won't let you stream live tv from a hotspot or another location. My internet was cut and out for a week and I had no live tv.
YouTube tv on the other hand, you can use anywhere up to a certain number of tvs.

Hell I'm headed to the fishing camp Wednesday, I'll sign up for a YouTube TV trial and test it out and let you know

no regrets. i pretty much only watch sports on YTTV but the DVR with the automatic time extension to get all of a game is quite nice.
EDIT: Hulu is strict about their location. You can only use mobile devices outside of your home. So if you like to take a streaming device like Roku, Chromecast, etc. when you travel, you cant use Hulu on them when you are away from home.

I'll be the naysayer - I don't think it's that much better.
To be clear, it's not much worse, I've just never thought "wow I wish I could have done this years ago" like some. The interface and response time are worse, the remote use is worse IMO, and the picture is generally a little worse (but not significantly). It's clunkier to use the actual service. I will say it's much easier to make any changes outside of the service itself (cancel, add ons, etc.)
I wouldn't go back to satellite/cable given what is required, but if I knew what I know now and that prices were going to rise on streaming, you were going to have issues with certain channels (Sinclair), etc., would I switch? 50-50.

After Super Bowl, I usually hit pause with You Tube TV because I don’t need it until Aug.so I save paying for 5 months minimum.
If Cajunomics could run football games, I wouldn’t ever restart it.
