So I picked up a modem, unhooked all my old shite, plugged in the new modem and called them up to provision it. Just my luck, their provisioning system is on the fritz, so I have no TV or internet at the moment.

It's as if they try to make everything difficult.

Luckily, I have a couple terabytes of stuff to watch that I've collected during my extended transition phase.

Cut the cord about a year and a half ago.

Use Cox for Internet

SlingTV + Netflix + Hulu + HBO Go + BlueRay + Chromecast

All we ever need for 2-3 hours of TV we do watch.

What do I need a login for? I don't have cable and have everything I need.
I likely wouldn't need a login either, but if a buddy is going to give me his login information I'd rather have the original HD ESPN or FOX streams rather than find them on KODI.

I fully admit that it's nice and convenient to have a friend with cable that allows you to use his password. I'd be okay without it all, but hey...why not?

I guess it depends on your setup but I canceled cable and got vue. That's why I don't need it.

"I hate all these companies screwing us and stealing our money!!"

"I'm sharing passwords with my friends for HBO Go"

Does not compute.

I stressed several times for her to tell me what my actual bill will be with all taxes and fees, and she told me $61 and change. Says the minibox is free (normally 2 or 3 bucks a month).
Well, the bitch lied.

My first month after dropping all that shite was $66, so I figured she was close enough. I didn't realize I had a $13 credit, so I'm actually paying $80 now.

If the bill comes in higher, I'm going to drop them and switch to the small local company in my town.
This I just did. They will be here Monday, and my bill will be $66 taxes and fees INCLUDED.

Now if they are lying too, I don't know what I'll do. Might have to start my own ISP.

Internet by itself would have been $70-something, but if I add basic cable the bill drops to $62.

You can probably expect that to go to 100+ in 12 months.

I got internet by itself (100 GB down) for 65/month for 12 months....and it only goes to 80 after 12 months...for now 80 is the non-promo price.

ETA didn't realize this was a dinosaur....I'm prophetic

There is very little (if anything) you can do with Kodi that will screw up your TV....Do you know if you have the Krypton build of Kodi? I think that became there official release not too long ago....it looks different from Jarvis.

Although CAD could have some modded out version of Jarvis that he is showing that would look real different from the default even it was the same build.

Not sure which version I have but I just downloaded directly onto my TV last night so I'm assuming it's the latest version. I think I have it downloaded correctly but when I try to unzip exodus it asks where to download it to and I have no idea.
I'll try to post pics later.

i am wanting to cut the cord but i have questions on recording live sports and being able rewind shows on the fly. with 3 young kids, i can never watch live sports when they are actually on and i am constantly having to pause shows while i am doing stuff with kids. generally watch tv at night after they are in bed, but there is always something.

I took care of my parents yesterday. They are too old and set in their ways to change. They have DirecTV plus AT&T for Internet and phone. They were paying right at $239.00 a month.

I was able to put together a package for them that combined all services for $155.00 a month, saving them $84 a month, or a little over a grand a year.

Tiger v pausing live sports might be the only thing that kodi can't do. May have to hook into a dvr to do that
I cut cord in last 2 weeks and went w kodi and ota all is good. The addons r the key. The only drawback for live sports is you may have to scroll thru a cPl of feeds to find an HD one. That takes 3 min tops. I went from 120 for sat tv plus 70 a month inter webs to 55 a month wfor a better interwebs. Good by sat tv fees. Daughter and wife love it and if momha happy everybody happy ??

Not if you get vue. The $35/mo I pay for vue is great for all of the live shows, but the access to the streaming services is worth it alone also. My Internet is $65/mo and vue is $35/mo. So for $100/mo I get something like 75 live channels, DVR, up to 6 TVs streams at once, and access to a plethora of streaming services. Throw in free local channels OTA and it is a much, much better deal than traditional cable and were not even talking about Netflix and Prime memberships.

When you realize you can actually survive without a DVR, along with cable now these days, the quicker you can lose that outrageous cable bill.

Take a little bit of the money you save from cutting cable, and bump up your internet to the next tier package. Then stream everything online when YOU want to watch it. Just like when you had a DVR. I can't understand paying a cable company to "rent" a DVR for years. That rent charge is a rip off.

And a lot of them add in commercials that you can't skip.

In a one hour network show, 18 minutes are commercials. I use the DVR to skip one-third of the show.

I had the same thing happen to me. I switched to DTV Now. No issues since. Wife misses the dvr since not all shows are offered through on demand. But cut the Cox bill from 256 to 70. DTV Now is 40 (added HBO). From 256 to 110. shite was getting ridiculous.
