My 2TB internal HD crapped out and is non-recoverable. RIP. What is the best source for "bare" drives (no cables and accessories - just the drive)?

Walmart has internal Solid State Drives in store for cheap that are made by Western Digital. It has the same SATA connectors that your hard drive has. I wouldn't go back with a hard drive.

I decided on this: 8TB Internal Seagate "Bare" drive

I needed the room. No sermons on SSD, please.

If you're hunting for a deal, check out slickdeals.net

Amazon just had a great deal on WD Red Plus 10TB drives, but anything else will be posted on SD.

Supply chains not looking good for Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals this year.

Well if you need 8TB, SSD is still crazy expensive for that much storage and would require at least 2, so maybe a NAS sermon would be more appropos.

Yea you need a small SSD to run your OS so its faster and use that 8gb HDD as a secondary drive or use an external NAS.

Running an HDD as a primary boot drive with today's technology is fricking retarded.

What's even more retarded is wrongly presuming it was the system drive that failed.

I have a 2TB internal HD that I use for storage (not my C: system drive).

Now go do the right thing.

In fairness, all you said was that you were looking to replace a 2TB HD that died. At 2TB or less, SSDs are the obvious choice for anyone who isn't the height of price sensitive.

Had you mentioned that you were looking to significantly increase capacity as well, I doubt you would have gotten many, if any, SSD replies.

I mean, you're the one who said "No sermons on SSDs please" -- kinda implied it. No one would give you a sermon on using rotational drives for just storage... I'm running 60+TB of spinning rust at home

Exactly why I made that assumption.

Usually do 8tb or 10tb WD elements and then shuck them. Red drives in most of them. Usually go on sale around this time as well

Amazon, newegg, best buy, etc, are probably your best bet for basic drives.

Sometimes Hard Drives Direct is good for specialty items, like if you're trying to find exact matching drives for a raid array in a server. Not sure if it's overkill for you but will link in case it helps.

red drives haven't been in then for a while now, at least the last 4 I have shucked from best buy. They are the white. And you have to remove on of the pins to get the drive to turn on. They reversed the layout to where if there is power to that pin the drive won't work. But if you remove that pin, it will fire up.

Thank goodness I have not had to do one in over a year but every one that I have done were reds.
