New to this. Appreciate any info. Trying to cut the chord

Honestly, just buy a whole new smart TV.
Firesticks are awesome and they work, and I have a bunch of them, but they are all laggy compared to a dedicated smart TV.

I've had a fire stick and a roku is better. More apps to access.
But cutting the chord these days means you'll end up paying for a bunch of apps.
Example - To watch the NFL you'll need YouTubetv or equivalent, Amazon prime video and Netflix.
This weekend the MLB team I follow had 3 games with the same team but each one was on a different app!
Good Luck.

100% disagree. TV interfaces and app updates were a matter of discussion at the party yesterday, everyone hates TV specific interfaces, and prefers Roku/Fire. Are you buying the Walmart exclusive $19 sticks and then complaining about performance not being on par with a $60 device?
Here is a brief breakdown; it looks like the 4th gen 4k and 3rd gen 4k max are about the sweet spot.

I've always bought genuine amazon fire sticks from amazon. To be fair the lag is always between the remote controls and the device itself. But it's annoying enough that I'll never buy another one.
Over the years, I've trashed all of them except 1, which is a firecube. And I only use that one as a second screen during football season.

Do people still download Kodi and get free shows and movies?
I used to do that back in the day.

That would be the Ugoos AM9 Pro

What do you do with it
I don’t have one but know someone who does. Everything except DRM loaded stuff. VVC decode. I just use ONN because I don’t worry about bandwidth and can’t hardly tell the difference between 1080p and 8k HDR.
Have 4k+ in living room and latest 4k on several other TVs. I do miss the remote finder of Roku ultra. The onn pro has it but it was outdated for awhile and I’m not sure if new one dropped yet.

<--- huge ONN/android box fan here. spend the extra $10 and get the one with an ethernet port and light-up remote.
apps are freaking buttery smooth. you'll hate yourself for waiting this long to switch.
i have a drawer full of firetv devices you can have for free

AppleTV obliterates every streaming device on the market.

DONT do this
The fire tv interface is already preloaded with 20+ Amazon apps and it’s very fricking bogged down.
Get an Nvidia Shield Pro and you won’t have to worry about it for a long time

Not only is that 100% wrong, but it’s also locked down unlike the Nvidia Shield Pro

Agreed
I’m running the Shield Pro with TiviMate and a really solid IPTV

Second this. I’ve replaced all my firesticks with ONN devices. Load it with the Projectivy launcher and you’re good to go.

quote:Exactly! Roku and Apple TV are great for what they do, but don't want restrictions. Let ME decide what I can put on the device I paid for.

quote:This is like the exact opposite of the truth in my experience. My TV has built-in Fire and it's excruciatingly slow. I bought the 3rd gen 4k Max stick and it's miles better. Still not quite as responsive and fast as I'd like, but it'll do.
