his is like the exact opposite of the truth in my experience. My TV has built-in Fire and it's excruciatingly slow. I bought the 3rd gen 4k Max stick and it's miles better. Still not quite as responsive and fast as I'd like, but it'll do.
i dont care if its an amazon tablet or fireTV or whatnot; guaranteed in less than a year that thing will turn into a laggy PoS and you'll be banging your head against the wall wondering why its taking 5 minutes just to boot up.

That would be Google, especially anything in the Nest lineup.
Just went to Walmart yesterday to look at a 4k stream box though and everything is all messed up now. They refreshed the lineup and only the plus/pro come in box format now and everything is priced 50-75% higher.
I guess at least they’re in stock.

I upgraded from the 4k stock to the cube for my primary tv and got an ir extender so I could put the cube in the cabinet.
I love it.
Much faster than the sticks.

Firesticks are awesome and they work, and I have a bunch of them, but they are all laggy compared to a dedicated smart TV.
I respectfully disagree with this . Quite the opposite from my experience or at least with higher end Samsung smart tvs. They get laggy AF after 2-3 years even though the picture quality is still great
My Sony OLED is a little better with Google tv interface but it's still underpowered compared to a dedicated streaming device such as an Nvidia Shield and the like

I haven't used a fire stick in forever. Tvs come with firetv now.
I just use a smart tv and my computer. That's the best you will get.

A lot of still have PTSD from the original Roku TVs. 10 years later the screen is fine but the smart features render the system completely useless. No apps work properly and updates pushed time to just turn on and navigate to an external system up to 3 minutes. Yet, somehow, if you plug a newer Roku device into it, it works perfectly and auto navigates there within seconds of startup.
All I want a TV to do is navigate to the most recently activated HDMI port.

i've never had a smoother, more intuitive experience than with my new TCL with bang & olfsen speakers built in and android OS.
its better than anything else in my house (including my beloved onn android box) by miles. being able to talk to the tv to tell it to mute or turn off when the remote isn't handy is one of the best things about it.
butter smooth..just really really well done. whatever processor tcl stuck inside this tv is killing it w/ the smart OS.

i dont know if its related to software encoding/decoding or upscaling but i agree; was watching my personal HD copy of miami vice downstairs on the samsung and was like 'meh this doesn't look like hd at all'.
was upstairs and put on the next episode on the tcl/android and i was like HOLY shite did someone replace my library?
amazing what a difference the hardware and software interpolation(?) or whatever the frick it is, varies between tvs for the same source material.

Didn't they also obsolete the first and second gen nest smoke detectors too? frick Google. I had a 3 pack of those cameras I got from home Depot that turned into bricks too.
ETA the cameras were perfect. Wifi, you plugged them in and sat them on a desk and the video quality and mic/speaker were simple elegant and functional.
Zero reason to break them.

I give them a pass on the smoke detectors because those expire. Cameras and thermostats don’t naturally expire, but Google expires them for you.
