Just got a message saying ATT will offer Rollover data. Interesting.

Says this:

AT&T Free Msg:
Announcing Rollover
Data. We'll
automatically add it to your plan
at no add'l cost when it
launches later this month. See
att.com/rollitover

Thats fricking sweet! AT&T use to do that for minutes. Now minutes are unlimited.

Time to step to the plate Verizon.

Now, for the fine print. If you have any Rollover Data, you’ll begin to tap into it once you’ve used up your monthly data allotment. Rollover Data will expire after one billing cycle or when you change your plan, including if you make a change to your data amount. Finally, AT&T says that Rollover Data is shared by all of the lines of a Mobile Share Value plan.

same with minutes back in the day. they simply dont want you building up a massive backlog of data but still..better than nothing

That's the caveat I remember seeing at the bottom of the screen on the commercial. I still have the unlimited data plan....but this may entice me to look into switching if I can save a few bucks a month. At home and at work, I'm connected to wifi so I don't believe my data usage is very high at all.

I basically have unlimited. We have 30 gigs of data on family plan and rest of them use 2gigs total. I also have wifi at work, home and gym. I don't think I would ever need unlimited. Only time would be tethering on long road trips for movies.

now that music streaming is 'free' on tmobile, i don't use the 2.5gb i have typically.

however stupid foscam was apparently running my HD webcam CONSTANTLY even when i wasnt using the app and that almost fricked me last month.

i just went into the new android settings and said 'frick foscam app, dont let it run over data connection'.

So I can only use the leftover minutes from the previous month? That's better than nothing but not by much.

Could you imagine how it would be for them if it were like the old minutes? I had like 10k stacked up one time.

Actually, minutes expire after 12 billing cycles, not just one. (I'm still on an old-school AT&T plan with rollover)

That's what I thought. This isn't much. Is this what others are offering?

If you have four lines and have a 15GB AT&T Mobile Share Value Plan and only use 10GB in a given month, you'll roll over 5GB and have a total of 20GB available to use within the next month. If you were to only use 10GB in the second month, you'll again roll over 5GB and have a total of 20GB available the next month. Bottom line: if you have unused plan data this month, it automatically rolls over to be used within the next month in case you need more than your plan's allotment. This gives you that extra data to do the things you love across all your devices, like surfing the web, watching videos, listening to your favorite music or sending email.

Better than nothing... but barely.

Creative AT&T math

First month of a 15GB plan
15GB available
Use 10GB
15-10GB = 5GB rollover data

Next Month
20GB available
Use 15GB
20-15GB = 0GB rollover data

So AT BEST you could only take advantage of this every other month.

It could at least be enticing if you used rollover first. That way I'd bank rollover every month, and eventually have double my data every month until I start to use more than my paid total.

I'm still sticking with my unlimited, but it's getting closer.

I still have unlimited, but this is pretty good.

I feel like unlimited days are numbered.

Unless...

First month of a 15GB plan
15GB available
Use 10GB
15-10GB = 5GB rollover data

Next Month
20GB available
Use 10GB
20-10GB = 10GB leftover data, but only 5GB available for rollover.

20GB again.

I don't think that's how it works though

You will probably use your first 15 GB out of your current months pool

So you will only get to use rollover from last month if you go over 15
