Mac can boot Linux too. I find this discussion amusing.

I get texts on my Windows 10 PC all day using a Galaxy S21. What is your point?

Just got a Macbook pro from work. IMO, it sucks massive balls compared to Windows 10.

That's because you don't know what you're doing on the Mac.

That could be part of it, but I don't find it intuitive at all and I'm not some noob to OSX as I also previously used a MBP as my primary laptop from 2010-2016. Currently, I have settled on having to use the terminal to navigate the file system, still battling various PATH issues, version control system issues, and not being able to use some productivity software I was using on Windows. I've never had this many issues trying to get environments set up on Windows. Not to mention it sounds like it's spinning up for a blastoff just from using Chrome, the keyboard is one of the cheapest/shitiest I have ever felt on a laptop and it only supports 2 external displays (M1 is even worst with only support for 1).

Wait till the new MacBook Pros come out . Should be soon. They will have a newer, even faster version of the new Apple only M1 chip.; They're gonna scorch earth with that.

Uhmm the new M1 chip already does. I'm pretty sure a newer version will do even better.

I doubt they put out the “m2” or “m1+” in the next/bigger mbp in the next 6m. If you’re currently in the market for a laptop, the m1 air or pro deserves consideration if you can stomach Apple. To continue to wait for what’s just beyond the horizon is to never pull the trigger.

Too many smoke signals on this for there not to be a fire...it's being predicted all over the place... LINK.

A source with a decent track record has suggested that the processor in this year’s MacBook Pro models will be branded the M1X rather than the M2, backing Bloomberg suggestions that it will be the same cores, but just more of them, and with a performance-heavy configuration.

Apple is said to be reserving the M2 name for next year’s chips, and that this will likely debut in a new MacBook Air …

Bloomberg didn’t specify Apple’s planned name for the MacBook Pro chips, but did tell us to expect:

For the new MacBook Pros, Apple is planning two different chips, codenamed Jade C-Chop and Jade C-Die: both include eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores for a total of 10, but will be offered in either 16 or 32 graphics core variations […]

The new chips differ from the M1’s design, which has four high-performance cores, four energy-efficient cores and eight graphics cores in the current 13-inch MacBook Pro.

The chips also include up to 64 gigabytes of memory versus a maximum of 16 on the M1. They’ll have an improved Neural Engine, which processes machine-learning tasks, and enable the addition of more Thunderbolt ports, which let users

Wait, I thought Macs were so easy to use, this sounds more like Linux jerkwad-ery.

ARE MACS NOW THE COMPUTERS FOR NECKBEARDS?

To a price to performance value. No. Macs do not even sniff pc's taint.

But I don't mind mac OS and understand people that would want to pay for that.

Apple released a $10k desktop that almost had the same performance as a $3500 PC.

For the record, I’ll probably never get a personal laptop again. iPad Pro is the way to go.

Anyone have any thoughts on this declaration?

I really want a device that I can have on my lap with my morning coffee that I can use to read, take notes, journal, etc, with both pen and keyboard input, and I can't figure out whether to buy an iPad, or a 2 in 1 laptop.

A Chromebook would do it too, but I have enough google in my life already.

An iPad seems like a no-brainer in some ways, but when I think of the laptop I could buy for the same price, it's tough not to stick with Windows.

The iPad Pro is great but I've been mostly unsuccessful putting it to consistent work for me. I use it to browse the internet as an alternative to my 16 inch MBP. I use it for some handwritten notes although I often revert to paper. I use it as a travel computer (for vacations) where I may have to do some work but nothing too serious. I think I once banged out a lengthy brief on it while abroad but it was a pain.

Some people will swear it can pull true double duty but I don't really see how. You need a table IMO and even then it's awkward for serious writing. I do like it, but it's more or less a luxury piece for me that I look for ways to use (rather than something that is essential to my workflow/life).

I will say it is by far the best handwriting experience I've had, having previously used a Surface Pro and some Samsung devices.

That's good information, thanks.

I bought and returned a Remarkable 2. It was a fantastic writing experience, just didn't quite do it for me. For someone who already has tablets, though, it would be a good option for just writing.

Yeah I've been curious about it for a while. For pure note taking would you recommend it? Any idea about syncing with a desktop app, etc.?
