I believe the $29 deal is new

Well if that's the case, this will probably be my first iPhone that the screen never shatters on.

For the first time, Apple is not releasing iPhone sales opening weekend. They know they're fricked.

I'm not sure why people are making a big deal about this. My Iphone 3Gs had a shiny black back to it and showed minor scratches. My grey 6S has wear spots on it from setting it on the counter. It's all normal wear and tear. It's the apple haters grasping on things to complain about. You mean to tell me your Samsung doesn't scratch?
Get over it.

I'm guessing you meant this in general and not necessarily directing this at me.

I love the fact they didn't include a headphone jack.
It will make my recently patented phone case with integral lightning to 3.5mm jack + extra charge port sell millions.

that can't be right, I paid $129 for a screen replacement on my 6 yesterday
Do you have AppleCare+?
Posted on 9/8/16 at 3:51 pm to GeauxColonels
when you go the apple route, do you pay monthly through ATT or Apple?
Posted on 9/8/16 at 3:58 pm to djangochained
You can do either. I bought my wife's phone at the Apple Store but it was essentially the same as me buying it from AT&T, which goes back to the having to pay it off if you leave issue I brought up before. I don't know if Apple does a straight payment plan that would be through them though. I think they may just do the upgrade plan which is fine if you plan to upgrade regularly but is over paying if you like to keep your phones.

The plan through Apple is a monthly plan spread over 24 months. Payments are more because it also includes AppleCare+ in the monthly payment. If you do one of the AT&T Next options, it's through AT&T and doesn't include AppleCare+...so it's slightly cheaper per month.
Anyone can go on the Apple website now and click the purchase button on the phone. You select the phone (7 or 7 Plus), color, size and then carrier. From there you can see the different options for payment (Apple, AT&T Next, AT&T Next Every Year, or Paying for the phone in full immediately.

So it stops when you've paid it off?

That, I don't know...but if you're planning on upgrading every 2 years, I think you'll be covered there entire time.

Yes, it is just a normal 2 year loan that has options at 12 months to end it if you upgrade.

So with Apple plan, after 12 months I just turn in phone and get the new model? No paying off remaining balance?
Eta: read the website and it seems that way.. You can upgrade as long as the equivalent of 12 payments are made. I think.

You sign another loan contract and your old contract is completed by basically surrendering the device to forgive the debt.
