This is all my fault. I never should have made the post that "in 2019 i cant believe apple is still using the lightning port".

the primary problem is that this event was so devoid of improvements worthy of discussion that the conversation about them wrapped up on page 2-3

Honestly, my wife was planning on the XR all along, but for only 100 bucks more we might consider the 11. I think they definitely did better with price points on the low end phone this time

If I was in the market for one of those phones I'd get the 11 even with the small tech bump.

Sprint is having a deal where you trade in your 6s and get a XR for free. Did that recently for my daughter. Pretty sweet phone.

Catch is it's under their payment plan, they pay for the first 18months and you pay the last 6 months.

But back to the original question I posted in here, what is the best time to buy? We are looking to trade in my wifes 6s for an XR, and we can get it for 499 right now. Does apple usually post any better deals? Wait for Black Friday?

I think Apple adjusted the prices with the announcement. I doubt there will be better deals directly from them anytime soon. I’m fact, they may decrease the trade in on the 6s and make the net XR deal worse for you.

Sometimes around the holidays the carriers will offer incentives, but that will involve altering your plan most likely (switching carriers, adding lines, etc.)

Yeah, I'm on total wireless so switching carries or hoping for a deal through them is pointless. In fact, they still have the XR listed for 749..

I only buy direct from Apple. Something goes wrong I just go straight to them.

If she needs to upgrade, this really is the best time, IMO. The product life cycle hasn’t even started and you get the discount on older models that will likely persist for the next year.

I have a 7, don’t really want a huge phone and the X (offered as refurb from Apple currently) Xs, and 11 pro are all way too expensive to justify. I considered the 8 yesterday but would be paying $350 to upgrade for basically no reason but to have a slightly newer phone.

Can't speak for everyone but, I'm "all-in" to the Apple platform now - MacBook Pro, iMac, Ipad Pro, Apple TV, iTunes, iCloud Storage, etc and it was very underwhelming to me.

Not to beat a dead horse but, I expected at least the iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max to be upgraded to USB-C like the iPad Pro earlier this year so it just isn't "Google Fanboys" bitching about it.

i had no idea (until this thread) apple was still using lightning. i actually did some googling and there was some division among the apple fans. apparently they love the aesthetics of lightning and then there is a meme about "inserting it in the dark"

Yeah, I've seen the inserting it in the dark thing. My biggest issue with the lightning connector is it's so flimsy. You drop your phone and might as well plan on replacing that cord because its guaranteed to bend, if not break, the spade on the lightning connector. Plus with the MacBook, iPad Pro, iPad etc being converted why not just change them all at once and be done.

We're past the point of "peak phone" but we're probably at least 5 years out from the next big thing. I'd guess it will be some form of Augmented/Mixed Reality using a combo voice assistant with wearable and/or projection technology.

it had the one thing that really distinguishes phones (camera) for me

Dude, I'm done derailing this thread. Show me once piece of evidence that Google sells your data? Just because you keep repeating it doesn't make it true.

They use your data for targeted marketing and to improve services. And they make a shot ton of money doing that.

And you think that's a significant difference?

ETA: I didn't derail this thread, all the android fan bois that dropped in to try to shite all over Apple did...
