Just switched to YTTV and got an email this morning from Cox saying 75% has been used with a week left to go in the billing cycle.

Anyone ever deal with this?

UPDATE below

I used to deal with this with Comcast after I gave up cable and started streaming. I fired them and switched to Frontier fiber. Better internet at a better price, with no limits. They tried all kinds of sales pitches to get me back, but it was too late.

Look for other alternatives. Cox might give you a better deal if you cancel.

That's been happening to me the past couple months. Pretty sure I figured out it was my Xbox. We shall see as the days go on.

We are a family of four and we also have YouTube TV plus the iPads in the PS 4 and the iPhones and we have went over a time or two but we have a terabyte and a half through Cox and we haven’t went over again

You mean 800? 80 is nothing.

Just for reference, a streaming service like YTTV at 1080p can burn through about 1.5gigs per hour.

Yeah I found out about my issue when Cox said I used around 300GB of data the 4 days I was out of town for Xmas. I started tracking data usage on my router after that and it turned out I was actually using the data. 50-80GB per day when I typically use less than 10. So, if your router has the ability I would start doing that so you can see if it's a Cox problem or a you problem. My router only tracks total usage, not per device, although you can see device usage in real time. I noticed most of the data was being used early in the AM so I set my router to turn of the internet between 2am-7am and factory reset my Xbox. Seems to have worked for now, but I'm waiting on a Raspberry Pi to come in to setup to track individual device usage and where their request are going so I can get to the bottom of it.

Well, we usually get our 75% notice with about a week left in our billing cycle

ETA we stream our arse off. We use data like we use light

I just received a 50 percent usage notice and thought I had unlimited with that high fee I pay for Gigabit speed. All I have done different is set up a Plex Media Server on my PC. That's all. Dunno why they're doing this.

yeah, that's something had to let everyone know once we switched over...family of 5 with 17, 13, and 10 yo...gaming usually for them and we'll watch shows in the living room. Have had to tell them all when done watching tv they have to hit the home button on firestick remote to put it back to the menu before turning it off

I ended up just paying for the unlimited data plan and not worrying about it anymore.

Tv is on the majority of the day with YTTV or Disney +. I average about 45-50 GBS/day with more on the weekends.

Did you completely erase it or were you able to keep your games and apps on?

So I did a little bit of digging and trial and error this week. I learned that having your Xbox set to instant on power mode has the Xbox technically still on after turning it off. I noticed on Xbox bandwidth log, it would sometimes burn a couple of gigs a night running updates on apps and games. Two days ago I switched it to energy saving mode and since then it hasn’t run at night.

Also switched my video playbacks on all apps to standard instead of best quality to save on data.

Yesterday, the Xbox was not used and we watched shows in the bedroom using the chromecast. This morning I looked at my data usage from yesterday and it was cut in half, compared to using the Xbox. From 36 down to 18. Watched essentially the same amount that we do on the Xbox every night using the chromecast.

they've really got us trained. turn your thermostat down to 62 and reduce the video quality of your tv shows.

I’m hoping that I can just work around the Xbox and switch everything back to best quality and only use the Xbox for gaming. Just don’t have a smart TV in the living room yet...I can use a spare chromecast for the time being.
