Damn, I just update to the Beta 5 yesterday. Should have waited 1 more day. Guess I'll install it tonight.

I'm on beta too, haven't got the official update yet. I'll keep checking though

I VPN'd all over the world (a friend said Germany seems to get updates before the US), and I still haven't got a sniff of the OTA. I guess I'll just wait for it.

You guys on the beta doing a fresh install? I'm undecided.

I never do fresh installs. I remove the -w from the flash-all.bat. I'm rooted, so can't do OTA.

I don't really know, what would be the down fall of not doing a fresh install

I tried checking for update (Pixel XL) and it says system up to date

Guess I might have to periodically check to see if it is rolled out to my phone?

I'm on a Pixel 1 XL as well. Not sure if it is being rolled out at different times in different regions of the country or something. I'm in Atlanta and got it yesterday.

Got it yesterday. I didn't do the beta, so here's my initial thoughts so far:

Likes:
- Love the volume rocker being moved to the right side of the phone instead of across the top. Much easier to switch quickly using one hand, especially on P2XL. Also like the default being media volume, with a toggle shortcut to make your ringer either on or vibrate. I've never needed to adjust my ringer to various volumes..I either want it on full blast or vibrate, so this default makes a lot of sense for me. Media volume is usually what I'm looking for when using the rocker. Also seems like they added another shortcut to switch ringer to vibrate by pressing power + volume up together. Nice to have. If I remember it exists.

- Notification drawer and sleep screen notification previews are sleeker looking.

- Adaptive battery - Haven't had the update long enough to really notice it yet. Looks like it's supposed to learn from your usage to know which apps to restrict on battery usage.

- Lock screen shows weather (don't know if it was possible before)

- Ability to schedule various battery saving features (night light at certain times, battery saver, etc.)

- Text selection, copying, etc. is easier and smoother

- Screenshots now give a pop-up prompt to edit/share/delete

Meh:
- Gesture controls - I think this initial install only included one new gesture control, which is to remove the recent apps button in favor of swiping up on the home button. I kinda just prefer having the dedicated button. Maybe it'll grow on me. Fortunately they give you the option to use either one.

- they moved the clock in the notification bar to the left... not sure why . Guess it's fine.

Haven't seen much yet of the slices feature, or any other features. I'm liking it overall so far.

This is to accommodate phones with a notch.

The gestures are superior to the old way once they become second nature.

Yep. I'm still fighting that trend. I am happy with my 2xl so I'm not in the market anyway but I would not be getting the 3xl.

You can now use Spotify for your alarm directly. No third party app required. Not sure if new or new to me.

I like it all so far except the recent apps being side by side instead of vertical. You could find the app you want faster the old way when you could see more than one at a time.

And you can do alarms with Spotify but not one of Google's own apps. Wtf. I know they are supposed to move from Google play music to yt music but shite.
