A laser pointer or LED can damage the camera...but you will have to point it directly at the camera and hold it steady for awhile before it will do anything. This could provide evidence of you damaging the equipment on film, and could create more issues down the road.

You would need to use a Class 3 laser pointer (some from china are actually class 3B) which are a pretty extreme eye hazard. A green Class 3A (now classified as 3R) or green or red Class 3B could cause permanent white screen on the system.

Not holding the laser steady
