I think Gio is fine, he played in 10 straight matches at BVB coming into this.

I do think Gregg is overthinking/scared shitless to start him only to have to waste a first half sub considering that's what happened the last time he started Gio. Not to mention, Gio has gotten hurt twice on Gregg's watch.

In my opinion, if he can give you 60 minutes, you have to start him. 10 minute cameos do nothing but handcuff Gio and the team. Also, I'm sure there is some aggravation from Gio's camp, but knowing Wynalda, I'd put money that he's embellishing that story some. Regardless, frick him for lobbing that grenade into USMNT land right before the most important match in 8 years.

You’re still missing the point. He’s assuming meathead Morris has speed and power.

Morris was one of the top 10 fastest players in MLS this season.

Yet he was the one who brought up reference to injury to begin with - then after the player denied it he completely changed his position.

He did the opposite of playing coy about injury - he offered it up before anything.

The known facts (what he said first and then afterwards) and what Reyna said are more consistently aligned with the speculation of a rift then an injury.

I don't mind him saving/conserving Gio due to his injury history

I do mind him waiting until 80 minutes to bring him on

I do mind "he had a knock" vs "I was 100%"

This WC has 5 subs use them at 60 minutes Gregg has been waaaay too cute with this. I don't want to hear oh the ball didn't go out of play waiting for Aaronson - you have that shite ready to go at 55 minutes

I agree with this on the Wales match. England match, I wasn't ready to sub anyone off at 60 minutes yet, we were moving like a well oiled machine and it really looked like we were going to get a goal.

That's also what makes the Gio conversation so hard, if everyone is fit and we're not playing a false 9, who are you taking off for Gio?

No doubt tough decision - it won’t happen but false 9 against Iran either moving Weah into it or Gio.

Iran is content with a draw and will bunker. We need as much creativity as we can muster.

Our 9’s have done nothing which is consistent with expectation. England broke them down with creativity - we need to do the same

Gregg should have just dropped this little ditty I saw on Reddit

Chad is a pain to listen to also, but I'd still take him over Wynalda and especially Fernando Fiore. Thank god FOX cut bait with that mistake a long time ago.

Oh look at that, Wynalda was embellishing

Another characterized it as nothing more than a parent, Claudio, being frustrated by a lack of playing time for his son, Gio.

So many NPCs in this thread desperate for anything to affirm “Gregg bad” that they think Eric fricking Wynalda is credible

Are we supposed to conclude that Wynalda made up the part about Gregg instructing Gio to say he is injured?

What you quoted doesn’t seem to say that.

I highly doubt Gregg told Gio to lie about his injury and then Gio immediately went behind his coaches back to say he was healthy, only for his coach to play him 10 minutes the following match.

None of that adds up. Why on earth would Gio do that?
