I think there’s a decent chance Senegal/Belgium will play in the knockouts

Senegal is more of a problem for the US than Belgium if the US gets past BIH, in my opinion.

Idk, we saw first hands a couple of months ago what a Belgium with Jeremy Doku can do to us.

I would for sure rather take my chances with Senegal

Yeah it’s a shite matchup for us. Sucks we couldn’t get Egypt, but they were crap today.

And it's not just the next 2 rounds. Even if we get past that we have Euro's our entire side of bracket.

Yea, but I would handily love to avoid a euro side until the round of 16.

Regarding Senegal, we beat them 2-0 earlier.
We were rocked by Belgium earlier as well.

To those typing about Belgium, Doku missed second match of the WC, and there isn’t many teams on the planet (Premier League and National) who can stop him.

Doku did whatever he wanted all match, similar to playing us

Maybe just me but I didnt think Belgium looked any better than the US. About the same, but not any better.

We're playing a lot better than we did in the 5-2 loss. My unpopular opinion is that I'd much rather beat a legit team to get to the quarterfinals than have some hollow quarterfinal achievement based on a soft schedule anyways

That is quite the unique take.

Nah frick all that. No gives a shite how you got as far as you got, just how far you got.

Soccer will grow in this country at a better rate if the US makes a semifinal run, not if they beat Belgium in the Round of 16 and then lose in the quarters

Don't get me wrong, everyone appreciates having a soft schedule, but at some point we have to step up into that top 8-12 team range. All the growth is pointless if we keep losing to the same B+/A- teams like Belgium & Senegal.

Looking at social media & finding out a lot of people REALLY don't know the offside rule

I think the FIFA rankings are a decent marker, but have to be taken with a grain of salt. We are currently ranked behind our biggest rival Mexico (9), and Italy (14) who didn't make the tournament. I think we beat the shite out of Mexico but lose to Italy.

Soccer in this country is finally getting to the state where the majority of the youth level are second or third generation and being coached by experienced and educated coaches rather than beer cooler dads. There are two second generation national team players on the roster now, the growth is coming, its just a little behind schedule (blame France 98)

As someone who has been around the game as a player, ref, coach, and parent... My initial instinct was that's a goal, my kid "reminded" me it is the second to last defender.

That's a letter of the law vs spirit of the law debate, but was called correctly based on the language.
