This feels like a very average USWNT tbh. I have no clue about the strength of the other teams, as I haven’t watched any other games so far, but they seem very average. Maybe it’s a case of a lot of new players making their debut, and the team will grow into the tournament, but it’s been fairly pedestrian.

This is the argument everyone will make. They should improve as the tournament goes on, but Netherlands is a tough matchup. It will be interesting to see what the lineup is next week.

Rapinoe has had some really poor touches/shots so far. Maybe she can turn it around still.
I don’t think she had a single quality touch.

Her first touch was outstanding
And then she did nothing the rest of the game
She isn’t good enough to be used in the tough games

Rap should have been put out to pasture instead of running off Jill Ellis.

It's a bad mix of new players with little experience because of the guaranteed salary rules which limited the amount of players they could rotate in and the washed up old guard there for a payday. Rapinoe for example hasn't really played much the last two years
Her, Lloyd, Morgan, and ertz probably shouldn't be in the WC

Dude. Lloyd is in the Fox studio. Morgan and Ertz were 2 of the better players on the field tonight

Ellis was weak and still started Rapinoe after she was proven useless in open play last WWC

Rap scored one of the two goals in the final and won the golden ball (although that was just from doing PKs).
You're probably thinking the Olympics. We were back on our heels whenever Rap was in.

Ertz may be the most valuable player on this team. Have you seen them play without her?

I’m not sure if you saw our PK attempt last night, but that’s where Rapinoe does actually provide value.
But she wasn’t great in open play, and hasn’t played recently either. If we were gonna get her that 200th cap, I’m fine doing it against Vietnam. If she plays going forward, it’s a terrible decision.

Right, at this point the only time I would like to see her is coming in at the 118th minute of stoppage time.

One thing that does really frustrate me about coverage for the Women’s team is that so many analysts cover them with kid gloves.
Like, it’s ok to say that Rapinoe played awful last night, even if you like her. Or that the midfield is a massive concern. I know there are some people that do that but I feel like people are afraid to keep the same standard for women that they do for men, which shouldn’t be the case! Treat them equally and criticize them when they play poorly.

Agreed
One reason why I love soccer commentary is they are brutally honest
NFL and NBA could learn a thing listening to British pundits

I feel like a lot of it has to do with access.
If you say something mean about an NBA player, you’ll get the cold shoulder from the whole locker room sometimes.

France draws 0-0 with Jamaica
Sweden beats South Africa in the 89th
France was the 5th betting favorite, Sweden 7th

Looks like the Dutch didn’t exactly set the world on fire versus Portugal either
