how did Bacon do overall after coming in? I wasn't paying much attention to him because I was too busy crapping my pants on every ghana cross. From what I recall, I felt like he did fine but do much because the offense was stagnant.

We basically played the 4-4-2 the other night even though we were supposed to be in a diamond. It's not a bad formation if you are hell bent on counterattacking. We might as well go to the 4-5-1 with the way were were set up, as our central midfielders were spaced so closely together, with absolutely no support for the attacking players.

This is why people laugh at you when you say that you know soccer and claim you could play pro.

yeah, I know. that's why I want none of it versus Portugal
just don't think the two striker system works for us without jozy.

We also don't really have a lone striker.

Johnson----Cameron----Besler----Beasley
----------------Beckerman--------------
Bedoya-----------Bradley----------Jones
----------------Diskerud---------------
-----------------Dempsey---------------
this probably won't happen, but you clog the middle and push beckerman over to help with Ronaldo and drop Bradley into Beckerman's spot and Mix into to Bradley's.

Well it doesn't seem like we can play as a lone striker anyway. We are in a shite situation without a backup striker to Jozy.

I have to think of Wondo as a sub. He's proven that he's not a target forward (and in fact had a few give-aways during the friendly that caused counter-attacks doing that). If he comes in at all, it has to be as a sub - especially in that heat, the D will be gassed and his movement could cause problems late.
I think we're either looking at a 4-2-3-1 with Deuce up top and Zusi on with Bedoya to help contend with Portugals outside play (CR and Nani) - or - Bacon up top with Deuce underneath, sort of like the same basic formation as Ghana but with Bacon in for Jozy. With that knowledge ahead of time, I think BAcon and Deuce can work some things out with Bradley. Bacon isn't a target forward either, but he is much better at passing, has patience, and generaly can fill that role a lot better than Wondo. I also think that Bacon can make some runs that will cause the Portugal D problems throughout the game.

yeah, but my thought is, better to have Dempsey toiling up there out of position and get a better hold of the possession game by adding zusi rather than weakening our midfield to no real attacking advantage from dempsey and AJ/Wondo.
if I wasn't terrified of CR7 i'd say play Johnson or yedlin at RM/RW to hit their weak left side on the counter (I disagree about putting Chandler there just because it seems to me he has less recovery speed and offensive ability). just sucks we have to choose between skilled CAMs and fast, out of position full backs in our wide positions. a player like old school Donovan or what we expect green to be in a couple of years would have really made this team a threat with the ability to attack quickly.

4-2-3-1-ish
same backline
bradley/beckerman as DMs
jones as LM/roaver
bedoya at RM
dempsey playing the CF/CAM right behind AJ
jones/bradley will have freedom to move back/foward and hopefully bradley can link up to dempsey on counters better from a slightly removed position. with beckerman staying back (and jones hopefully not going too forward, which he has done playing LM lately), beasley can be allowed to push up further for a legit wing option
we need bedoya and fab against my boy ronaldo. end of story. keep zusi ready for a 70-75th minute sub for an almost guaranteed to be worn out bedoya. that's why i don't want zusi starting
we will be playing for a draw, but we need a draw. we may catch them on some counters, too, and we will only be able to do that with bradley staying a bit more back and not playing CAM

When? He went on a short run scoring goals against CONCACAF bottom-feeders and has done nothing else in a US shirt. He is not anywhere near international quality, and, in my opinion, is more of a waste in the 23 than Brad Davis.

If we were to revert to a straight 4-4-2 I wouldn't mind Chandler on the right in place of Bedoya. Chandler will help us on the break in a big way.
i wouldn't be opposed to this, either
one underrated part of beasley/chandler is taht they can play outside in the midfield, IF we have guys to take their spot

I like Bedoya on the break more than Chandler.

Did you notice how that thread ended for you?
And I'm still waiting for an instance when Wondo "proved" himself capable of being an impact sub against Portugal. It is ok to think that Jurgy made a wrong decision.
