We are fine with Bradley obviously, three goalies is required, and 4 center backs makes sense, but the question is why are there are so many essentially useless subs?

The alternative is the poor man's version of Jozy in Boyd and poor man's Geoff Cameron in Evans and Parkhurst (jack of all trades), and of course Landon who would be a superior option to most of our starters.

Just saying, just cause they played doesn't mean they were guys most of this board wanted out there.

I agree, but remember, Findley and Rico were the starters against England. However, when they showed that they couldn't get it done or were suspended on yellow card accumulation, we had guys like Edu and Gomez that could fill those roles and not miss much of a beat, in fact we were better off with Edu.

The fact that we brought guys in who probably can't contribute on the international level be it they are too young (Green) or simply not good enough (Davis) concerned me then and still concerns me now.

By my subjective count, I have Yedlin, Green, Davis, Chandler and Wondo as guys who I would be ok if they don't see a minute in Brazil.

I would be ok with it too. Just like I'm completely ok with it that Parkhurst, Ream, Edu, EJ, etc won't.
Now that Jozy is hurt, it would be nice to have Boyd.
This seems like a stupid time to be complaining about fringe players.
We simply do not know what difference any of those players might have made for us, and it really doesn't matter.

The same people who could not get over the LD omission are using Jozys injury as an excuse to bitch about the entire roster as if we left multiple Germany-beaters at home. What a fun activity a month after the cuts and in the midst of a group we were always a longshot to escape.

I've been bitching about Davis and Wondo since the 23 was announced.

Obviously leaving out Boyd, Parkhurst, etc is not dropping great players, but the point is that we should have taken 23 to Brazil, not 19 or 20. Now without our most unique player in the pool, we are scavenging to create a lineup. This should not happen when only one guy goes down.

Calm down.

There is a difference between bitching and voicing a concern.

For the record, I haven't mentioned Landon once in this thread nor have I mentioned his name during the world cup outside of a "oh look, Landon's on ESPN" or "oh look, Landon made a EA Sports commercial."

Donovan being left off seemed stupid then and stupid now. Why not say that on a message board discussing the lineups.

Also, outside of maybe 12 all of our players are fringe players so that's exactly where discussions of which ones should play in emergency situations becomes naturally leads.

That's true.

I just think, even without Landon, the team is more solid overall than we were in 2010, so I have a hard time being too upset that our 22nd and 23rd guys might not contribute.

I also wonder how many people had Brooks in the "useless" category when the 23 was announced. Wasn't the conventional wisdom that he was too young to contribute, hadn't done anything for the U.S., and only on the roster because JK loves Germans?

It is also a message board. It was literally designed for us to bitch about this shite.

Except for the fact that it would probably be a complete and unmitigated disaster, I wouldn't mind this

I had Brooks at the Omar level. On the roster, but I do not really want him on the pitch. I think it is fair to put him as the third CB now.

IMO, this is as bad as TexasTiger's plan to drop Bradley and bring in Green.

if Dempsey got hurt (god forbid) rather than Jozy, we would have been bitching about the inclusion of Boyd.

more CB's/RB's/Defensive mids are not the answer either IMO.
Plus i really doubt these two really do more for us than the other guys that people are bitching about not being able to see the field.

right now our only concern should be who is going to replace Jozy in the starting lineup. Not a full blown discussion on the roster choices for the 90000 time.
I have complaints about the roster as well but some of the choices were obviously situation choices as in we are in this situation and need x, this player is good at doing that.

I do not really see Dempsey as somewhat "irreplaceable".

They are not the answer, but it would have been much better than Green, Davis, and Yedlin.

Yeah, a lot of it is meaningless bitching, but why not?

but you see Jozy as somewhat irreplaceable?

I dont know if can really get on board with this statement... Jozy was not in that good of form going into this thing

No one else can play back to the goal like Jozy can. I trust Jozy more than almost any of our other players.

Dempsey is one of our most likely goal scorers and talented players, but I think Johannsson could come in and fill Dempsey's role easier than Jozy's.

this is certainly true. And I definitely get what you are getting at but.... without dempsey and his 3 minutes of magic at the beginning of that game we are not in the situation we are in on Monday.

We might have to change up our style of play a bit from the other day, but the talent drop off is certainly more significant from dempsey to replacement than it is from Jozy to replacement.

All this being said, I love Jozy and think he is a fantastic player and hope he is not out for long.
