Equal pay? For what exactly? Like appearances and stuff? That sounds reasonable. They might gross more money than the men's team

It's not about how much money the respective national teams generate.
We have to pay the men more because their opportunity cost is so much greater.

Yup.
I mean I get it, you're good. You've won some World Cup's and lost another, but when it comes to sports it comes down to entertainment value. It's just like the UCONN women. People aren't going to pay $200 a ticket to go watch them beat the shite out of someone. Just like very few people will pay that to go watch the USWNT play someone who isn't one of the like five women powerhouses in the world. There is just no way anyone can convince an actual sports fan that the entertainment value is the same.
Male athletes will just always be paid more. I'm sorry, but it's true.

If the women don't want to play for lesser money, tell them to sit out until the USSF pays what they want?
I'm sure the women are making more money also because they are playing about 50 friendlies a year.

On the US Soccer site, in 2015 the women played 13 games, bringing in a total attendance of 361,388. The men played 11 games and brought in 396,326.
So I'm not sure what they're looking at haha

If we want to get real technical, comparing the ad revenue (you know, who ultimately pays for everything regardless of federation) of the 2014 men's world cup to the 2015 women's world cup, the men's event brought in $521 million dollars compared to only $17 million for the women.
Looking at revenues for WC's, in 2010 the South Africa event generated $3.7 billion dollars, compared to only $72.818 million for the Women's world cup in Germany (I used Germany and South Africa because I couldn't find the numbers for the most recent women's world cup).
And surprsingly, the women's pay-out to teams was $10 million, while the men only received $348 million. That means the women participants received 13 percent of total revenue generated by the event, while the men only received around nine percent.

And 2015 was a WC year in Canada so that data is skewed I would guess (assuming it is counting those games?)

This wage disparity is based on the last CBA which was 2012. It is quite disingenuous for the USWNT to use their 2015 season as the typical yearly sample. I understand they are trying to capitalize on 2015, but don't fool yourself that 2013 was similar to 2015.

Yeah, the Deadspin link said the major difference is going to be World Cup payouts because FIFA controls that, and it pumps in (and makes) astronomically more for the men's than the women's.
Still, the revenue difference between the men and the women compared to the pay amount is pretty eye-opening.
