His parents were grad students in Alabama.
According to my Icelandic friend (below left), Alabama is the go to place for Icelanders who are studying in the US. She knew of a small college there that fielded a soccer team where Icelanders made up 10/11 starters.

World Soccer Shop probably still has them. I wished they would keep the Centennial crest though.

But yeah I get the elf thing. I think she looks like a god damned nordic princess. Iceland probably has the most attractive population I've ever seen. Well of women at least. The men are pretty fug but somehow the women keep turning out just fine.
