so we win the ocho and we should be pot 1 right

I think it's just hard to say. It of course depends on what the other teams do and how we win the Ocho. I think there's still a sizable point differential between us and #7 that we would have to make up.

I think we're ~33 points behind #7 and this summer only netted us 92 points.

I think we're 67 points behind #6 Argentina. 33 points behind #7 Spain. 15 points behind #8 Portugal. 2 points above #10 Mexico.

Argentina still has to play a lot of the better SA teams (including Brazil twice).

Spain is winning their group (7 points in 3 games) but still has to play Sweden twice and Greece once.

Portugal is winning their group (7 points in 3 games) but still has to play Serbia once and Ireland twice.

but 1 UEFA group has at least 2 teams with a worse ranking than the lowest CONCACAF team.

You are looking real dumb trying to prop up our shitty region teams vs Europe’s

You realize that the rankings don't care about your opinion, right? It's a mathematical formula based on where teams are ranked, not on how good they actually are.

He isn’t trying to say CONCACAF is as strong as UEFA, he’s simply comparing FIFA rankings and how we could potentially jump further.

He is simply doing an objective quantitative analysis that will play into the decision of FIFA rankings and Pot 1. He is not even really making a subjective qualitative analysis or propping up our "shitty region teams." If anything your argument is that FIFA is propping up those teams. Kind of silly to say he is "looking real dumb."

Damn bro, between railing on Acosta during the best game of his life and now this, you may want to take a break.

I like shitting on pville when he's being purposefully obtuse as much as the next guy, but this ain't it, he literally just posted FIFA's rankings.

USA & Mexico in the top 10 is absurd but I’ll take it lol. Our highest rating since 2006 and rightfully so though. We belong in the teens IMO but that’s not a slight at all either. I like the argument about our octo rankings compared to the UEFA WCQs. Looks like we’ll get enough of a test in our final WCQ round that if we place 1st and shine we could be deserving of a pot 1 place in WC groupings when they do the draw.

FIFA rankings are basically ridiculous, but they do matter for seeding so I can't call them worthless. But the USMNT ranked 35th in the world in 2017 when Berhalter took over, so this is a pretty remarkably turnaround.

We're not the 10th best team in the world, but we probably weren't the 35th either. But now, the team is in good position and needs to simply keep winning in qualifying, and we should be able to hold onto the ranking by the time of the WC draw.

A more accurate ranking, the World ELO rankings, puts us 17th. We ranked 32nd after the infamous Costa Rica match in 2016. Progress is being made, regardless of who is counting.

I think we’re around 14 or 15 so 17 is more right than 10.

But I can totally see us being 7-10 in 2026

How is Belgium still #1?

They’re like 50-1-2 over the last few years and you don’t get docked points for losing in knockout stages. They have only gained points.

Belgium is also no. 1 in ELO.
