Agreed, but it's kind of funny we could do that.

Agreed. Hope Erik Williamson can come back healthy and push him out of the MF for Qatar

Oh, it says "qualified". I couldn't make it out at first.

Yeah that is stupid and it pisses me off for two reasons:

1) They shouldn't even be making a big deal out of qualifying. That is the bare minimum expectation.

2) They haven't qualified yet.

The behavior is a symptom of the entitlement / everyone gets a trophy generation.

Maybe they were under the impression that the other games' results sealed our qualification. If after the game someone handed me that banner, that's what I would assume

Saw a post earlier about just forfeiting to avoid injuries. Couldn’t we technically do that or no? Wouldn’t a forfeit be 3-0?

I was trolling with this post. Would be pretty funny if we did this and it contributed to Mexico played in the play-in match though. But yea, we should not forfeit the match

Considering the US did not qualify for the last World Cup, this team should absolutely feel pride and happiness over achieving that first goal of qualifying.

Celebrating early? Yes that’s kind of regrettable. Is it a big deal? Not to me.

Because we are in a relatively weak federation but are trying to qualify for a tournament we have very little reasonable hope of winning now (but really NEED to qualify for if we hope to win it in the future), qualifying is both the bare minimum AND a really big deal.
It’s ok to celebrate that.

so... 2 questions looking ahead to Wednesday... and I ask these with the understanding that all 4 matches start at the same time (8:05 PM CDT)

A) should Panama somehow get up say 2 goals early on Canada (maybe Canada DGAF since they're already in)... would the USA maybe press a bit to try to steal top of the qualifying table? (Canada has a 4 GD lead [+17 to +13] on the USA & has 2 more goals scored [23 to 21] than the USA)

2) Costa Rica will be scoreboard watching the Mexico/El Salvador match as Costa Rica could go straight to Qatar by leaping Mexico. Mexico has a +7 GD while Costa Rica has a +3 GD. If Mexico trails and Costa Rica leads by enough to make up that GD (say 3-0 El Salvador & 2-0 Costa Rica... fat chance I know)... and it's in like the 70th minute in both matches... do Costa Rica & USA start playing boot the ball long to the other team?

Which is one of the lowest points ever for US soccer. Barely achieving (not just yet though) a better result than that is worthy of a celebration with a banner?

Take away the fact that we haven't officially qualified yet, what is the USMNT supposed to celebrate? People make fun of the Gold Cup and Nation's League Cups for being meaningless. Winning the world cup would be a monumental upset. So, if the players and fans can't celebrate qualifying, what are we allowed to celebrate?

I’m convinced there is a small subset of our fan base that just wants to be miserable regardless of the outcome.

No
Where we finish in qualifying doesn’t really matter
It’s just as long as we qualify

“Barely achieving” is an unfair way to look at the situation. The reason that Canada qualified just last night and the US still hasn’t qualified is really due to the bottom half of CONCACAF being so bad that it’s a very lopsided table.

The US averaged 1.2 points per game in 2018 qualifying. The US is averaging 1.9 points per game in 2022 and the worst result is 1.8 per game.

This is a significantly better performance.

This is a stretch, I am surprised you didn't find a way to use the word "woke" in your post. I am sure these players got to the top of their profession while competing with players from the rest of the world for jobs are products of everyone gets a trophy.
