I certainly had my doubts leading up to the World Cup window this year, but based on the two warmup games and this one, certainly seems like he has the team peaking at the right time. Even players who weren't in great form at their clubs.

Same, but they were showing the behind the scenes and how much he truly gave a shite about this team and the vision he had. Check it out if you haven’t already. Amazing seeing it all come together. It’s only been one game but that was unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

that was a fun watch
never seen a US team so nsync with one another
seemed like they all knew where each other were on the pitch
loved the one touch passing, moving the ball with calmness and precision even while under pressure
keep this energy up

It’s weird to me that Gio is only 23.
Last cycle, 23 would make you the old man.

Read that this morning with a hangover at 6am.
Gave me a larger headache.

I mean, if nothing else proved it, the sprint to the touch line to celebrate with the team made that very obvious.
He also fought through the scrum to get to Gio specifically and they had an awesome bro hug moment.
He is pouring everything he has into these guys.
Imagine being Gio… You’re struggling to get minutes at your club, but can’t seem to figure it out. In terms of your career, the national team is your only success and it really hasn’t been dynamite, per se.
But the team hires a world-renowned manager with a proven talent evaluation and development track record and trophies at the highest level, and he goes to bat for you in the home media based exactly on what is the ONLY quality that they in the media grant you: your talent.
He calls you a special case. He believes in you. He plays you game one off the bench in a home World Cup, and you fricking BURY the other squad with the last touch of the game. Absolute dagger, extend the goal differential, and the bench clears to celebrate with you in front of 74k fans in the most expensive stadium in the world in Los Angeles.
Oh, and by the way, this man is out of shape and runs down to the touch line and fights his way to the middle of the celebration to embrace you with genuine joy on his face.
I don’t give a flying frick what anyone says, what our future performances look like, or how the tournament ends for us… Mauricio Pochettino was the right hire. He has the potential to go down as the best manager we have ever had, and is already close to it in my mind.
All the moaning and groaning to this point was at least semi-warranted, but there was a clear vision from him. The road wasn’t always clear to us, but it was obvious late last year that something changed. The mentality changed. The group bought in.
I always look for that genuine connection between the players and the manager. That’s the hallmark of the best teams you see in sports, by and large.
This team has that. I am stoked to see what we do in the next games.

Also let’s say Balo keeps scoring like this and is in the running for golden boot, what big club comes calling?
This was always my hope for this WC. If Balo's value goes exponential, then it means we do really, really well.

An underrated moment in the celebration was that Seb Berhalter had a shite eating grin while hugging Gio after that goal.
The country is healing.

Preach. Seeing him break down in the locker room after the Gold Cup loss to Mexico told me everything I needed to know about him. He’s a true leader and great evaluator of talent.

Biggest takeaway other than the fact that we pierced our dick straight up Paraguay’s arse is that it is so amazing that we finally have a 9 that commands the respect of the opposing backline like Flo does.
Go rewatch the first half and just focus only on him. Both Paraguay CBs are hovering him at all times, forcing them to be so narrow. The channels turned into fricking oceans for McKennie, Pulisic et al to run through.
The best part is Paraguay built its defensive game plan around Flo… and he still scored a first half brace.
Feels good man.

I think my biggest takeaway was that Richards is just as vital to this team as Tyler Adams. This man made several tackles within 15 yards of the midfield line and snuffed out so many changes in possession it was ridiculous.
He also set up passes and played through the lines. The only real issue the defense had was Ream being in desperation mode for some reason to clear that ball that Paraguay scored on. Literally passed it to him because he felt so desperate to get it out of there.
This team may actually be a dark horse. The conservative side of me says not to get my hopes up…
frick that guy.

Not going that far yet because I still need to see this group of players be able to beat a euro team (hello Turkey).
But yesterday was as good a first step in the tournament that we could’ve possibly taken.
If we stay healthy… oh boy

Yep, I laughed at arsenal even being in those discussions.

Richards was vital in certain moments last night. 100% pass accuracy over 83 passes. Plus he's got that Bone Thugs N Harmony afro going.

I mean this in the best way possible - that game was very un-American of us.
