I have to eat a bit of crow.
I called this team soft earlier, when they went down 2-0 on a goal later called off. They aren't soft. Tonight was a big game from that perspective. They fought for the game. They fought for eachother. And they kept fighting.
I still have concerns about the line-ups and tactics of the staff, but the player's showed fight and heart tonight, which has largely been missing (perhaps because we had nothing to play for until this week)

This team is far from soft
These kids have fight, and a lot of it is because they have to fight week and week out for their places in their club sides. Not a bunch of for sure MLS staters who just sleep walk their way to matches. These young dudes are getting tested every day. It’s the type of mentality in players Jurgy wanted when he said our best players need to go abroad.
They could have packed it up multiple times when they were getting played off the pitch for long stretches but they refused and I love the grit
As far as your concerns I’d say 98% of us still have them with the manager and it basically seemed like we won in spite of what Gregg was doing. He got his tactics and subs wrong and we got lucky the match wasn’t over the first 20 mins. Leaving Ream on way to long, hell just starting him and Acosta wasn’t good. Waited a bit long to bring Adams on especially if he was fully fit.
This is only the start for this group of players especially once we establish a legit #9 and figure out the LB position. It would be beneficial if our keeper got regular playing time as well.
A tactically astute manager could do wonders with these players

I missed my morning workout and only woke up bc my kids said they were hungry

I bitched out around the 30th min to go to bed. Watched the 20 min extended highlights on YouTube this morning. I wouldn’t have been able to sleep at all if I had watched all of that real time.

Then she can go live in Mexico if she loves it so much. And the rest of the fricking Mexicans in the stadium last night for that matter. They've always booed our anthem, thrown shite at our players, yet they sure don't want to leave the US, do they?

Everything hurts. Once we went to extra time and the nerves started going I switched to bourbon and I’m paying for it.
Honestly don’t even give a frick, still on the moon after last night.

oh shite... I tuned over to LSU when it was 2-0 Mexico
how'd we come back and get the lead??
now I understand the downvotes for this post after watching the replay early in the morning
the 24th minute Mexico goal was disallowed by VAR due to offsides after I flipped over to LSU and the US equalized like 3 minutes later
also... the quick bang-bang goals around the 80th minute that forced extra time

Mexicans damn near dug a ditch where Pulisic was going to plant his foot.

Had the Football show on for the drive to work and a lot of people were saying the same stuff most of have been.
Love the fight from the team
and that Gregg got it all wrong

I don’t agree that he got the subs wrong. I thought he got off the right players and the change in formation to allow Pulisic to get on the ball more was beneficial.
I don’t like having Ream in the lineup, but I’m not sure what the other options were. McKenzie had one of the worst performances on the field, and if Adams wasn’t healthy to go the full match, I think you’d have conceded a lot more without 3 CBs. Dest out of position and Yedlin aren’t good defensively, and McKennie and Acosta don’t expire much confidence in front of the the back line either.
Surely any manager isn’t leaving out Adams for Ream if fully fit.

If playing a back 5 that includes Ream as the LCB, you need to have Robinson at LWB but staying home and have Dest bombing up the other side. McKenzie is more athletic to cover wingers 1v1 if need be

Definitely agree that Ream was behind the game all night. Hopefully that game was a bit of a swan song for him because he just doesn't have the pace(especially with Brooks on the field) for this level anymore.
I actually thought Acosta played fairly well. He was about the only one who attempted/succeeded in distributing the ball out of the back third as opposed to just swinging it around side to side in the back. That needs to be Adams' spot as long as he's healthy, but Kellyn looks like a pretty serviceable backup going forward.

My issue is we are dire right now at CB and you pick a formation that demands 3 of them. Yeah, I know dest is a better wing back but you can’t pick that formation when you are already thin back there. Dest paired with Ream on the left is a defensive disaster waiting to happen especially with El Tri’s best player (Chucky) playing AMR.
