From about minute 78 onward, I’m not sure any soccer was played

What the frick was our plan?

I serious couldn't figure it out when we had the ball. Didn't seem like we had any plan at all.

I was ok with the lineup, but that means you have to get the subs right. Acosta and Bello should have never seen the field in the second half. Lleget is too slow. Just a 0 out of 10 for Greg. I don’t know if Greg is capable of helping this team reach their potential

Yea I think US soccer in general puts way too much stock into how players perform in the gold cup and friendlies. Those are not really useful showcases.

It’s obviously easy to second guess after a loss, but Shaq Moore and George bello as starting FBs in a road qualifier shouldn’t have happened. That’s a Spanish league 2 player and an mls teenager not named Pepi. There were better FB options on the bench tonight and left off this roster entirely. If you don’t have pulisic and Reyna up top you can’t have black holes at the FB spot.

Costa Rica is clearly a must win now. I’m confident Dest/ARobinson/mckennie/musah/pepi in the starting lineup deliver that result.

Agreed, it’s just frustrating as hell to feel like this match result was a total self inflicted wound. Like this didn’t have to happen with a decent plan. We looked clueless.

Lletget needs to be done with the USMNT and Bello needs to be done for this cycle.

Zardes still has to exist because we suck that bad at striker and if he goes, that just means Sargent is back in. Hoppe needs to get a shot at that spot though. Pepi won't score every game, we need someone else to step up.

Can we finally move on now? This isn’t acceptable and is 100% on Berhalter. The Gold Cup love fest bought him too much time I’m afraid

So freaking frustrating.

Zardes is so fricking bad - you cannot tell me that Hoppe in a game like this (never mind long term experience) wouldnt be a better call if you feel obliged to take the hottest striker on the team right now and bench him - eventhough you subbed him after 59 minutes last week.

And yes Musah had some turnovers, but it was clear from early on any goal was going to come from some individual magic. The only dynamic players on the field were Musah and Weah... look at the ending line up - seriously what the frick do we expect is going to happen with that. That is our need a goal lineup? Seriously?

That's the problem, there was no plan. The US played direct passes over the top but the issue was Nipples and Weah were coming back for ball to feet. It's like wtf are you doing in training?!?

We're not firing him unless he says something racist or gets caught with an underage child.

It's too late to cut bait based on performance.

Particularly when he is on the bench after only going 59 minutes in the previous game. Way to stick with the hot hand

Unfortunately this is true. The only real option would be somebody like Bob Bradley and that’s way too similar to last cycle with Arena

I've come to peace that the USSF will hire the wrong manager now and the future so let this shitshow play out.

Greg keeps giving me hope then he reminds me that he may be mentally challenged. Leaving Acosta on the field is indefensible

Mexico and Honduras still playing (Mexico leads 1-0 in 66th miute), but here's the table right now. Still in a good spot because other results went our way (Canada drawing at Jamaica), but damn a win today would've been huge in drawing some serious separation from the rest of the pack.

1. Mexico, 11 pts, +3 GD, 6 GF
2. USA, 8 pts, +4 GD, 7 GF
3. Panama, 8 pts, +3 GD, 5 GF
---
4. Canada, 7 pts, +3 GD, 6 GF
---
6. Costa Rica, 6 pts, 0 GD, 3 GF
7. El Salvador, 5 pts, -3 GD, 2 GF
9. Honduras, 3 pts, -4 GD, 2 GF
9. Jamaica, 2 pts, -6 GD, 2 GF

I know everyone wants to win every match, but the science has always been win at home and draw on the road and we already fricked that up by drawing Canada at home, but then got back on track with the win at Honduras.

Losing today though means we need get a road win but there aren't that many opportunities with our road games the rest of the way being Jamaica, Mexico, Costa Rica and Canada.

Yea

He’s not getting canned unless we implode

Will he get exposed as a manager at the WC? Probably but he’s earned the right to prove he can get us out of the group stage and make some noise.
