They kind of just alluded to it on the postmatch show, and when I first heard it, it sounded blasphemous... but is the midfield answer for Musah to replace Adams instead of Reyna replacing one of McKennie or Musah?

The point they were making is that Musah showed that he can more than hold his own with the defensive responsibilities that come as a 6, not to the level of Adams obviously. However, unlike Adams, Musah can also dribble out of pressure.

Even better, none of those guys are going anywhere. TA is 27 for the ‘26 WC, Musah is 24, Wes, Gio, CP all mid-20’s. Lines up really well!

As well they should. Canada was mediocre at best. The USMNT dominated the tourney and will likely rule the Gold Cup with a deep and talented lineup.

It’s a headache and one I’m glad I don’t have to figure out. You can always play Yunus against better teams and Adams against teams sitting back on the counter.

Apparently Aunt Jemima Syrup is Canada, which makes zero sense.

Um, have you seen our Gold Cup Lineup? LINK If Canada sends just half of the guys that played last night (can’t find their 23-man roster anywhere) they could probably win it easily. And the result last night is the perfect incentive to send as many of them as they can (save Hutchinson and Davies) to keep working on getting better. Hell, if Qatar sends their A squad, they could probably win it!

In my opinion our best midfield replaces McKennie with Gio. Adams, Musah, Reyna. It’s easy to forget how important Adams is to our team. We played a dogshit Mexico and a Canada team incapable of building through the midfield. With teams that want to play through their midfield, we need Adams.

I think Musah is a great 8 for reasons you mentioned: good defensively but can carry the ball out of pressure. I like McKennie a lot but he’s mostly just condensed grit and shithousery (which definitely has a place)

Have we ever had this level of “problem” at an entire position group?

They said this about Mexico and Canada in 2021.

Good article of the players singing Gio's praises

LINK

I really do think the Gregg/Gio relationship drama is overblown. They both know that, if they want success, they need each other. Gio needs Gregg to call him to camps and Gregg needs Gio to win games.

I think the biggest Gio concern going forward this cycle is injuries.

I’m sure this group will fight, but I don’t think we’re at the point yet where we can send a complete B-squad and win an international tournament. If MRob is still out, Turner will be the only one from our first team squad, and I doubt he plays every game, since the whole point is to build depth. Maybe Vazquez or someone will catch fire, but winning this will be an uphill battle.

The 2021 Gold Cup winning squad was probably worse than a B squad.

Looks like Canada will be missing some top players. No idea about Mexico.

Our roster for the Gold Cup isn't that bad, honestly. Midfield is fairly weak but there's attacking talent that is good enough to score against CONCACAF opponents, a strong goalkeeping group, and a solid group of defenders.

The ‘21 Gold Cup squad had Turner, MRob, & Zim right in front of net, which would have been our WC starters if MRob was healthy. Williamson might have been on the plane too, if he wasn’t hurt. Beyond that we didn’t have much, which is why we struggled to score (that & GGG’s tactics). Maybe some of this group will step up, but I wouldn’t be shocked if we didn’t make the final.
