United States of Advanced vs Fried Turkey | World Cup Group D | 9pm CT (FOX)

Only so many times we get to watch our country play a World Cup match, so it's the weirdest feeling ever knowing this one is a glorified training session.
We're currently on a 9-match losing streak to UEFA teams. In fact, the last time we didn't lose to a European team was the 0-0 draw with England in the last World Cup.
The last time we beat a UEFA team... a 1-0 win over Bosnia on 12/18/2021.
Lets fricking change that.

Pulisic needs a tune up before the real games begin

Play him the first half to get some minutes, then get him out of there before a pissed off Turk takes him out.

9 points in the group could never be topped unless FIFA does something stupid in the future. A win and ending group play perfect would be pretty special.

So we know the 4 yellow card players are sitting out, so who plays tomorrow?
McKenzie for Richards
Little Greggggg for Adams
Pepi for Flo
And Max is gonna fill in for Jedi and frick around and get like 2 assists and a goal and earn a big offer from a European club lol.
I could also see Weah getting the start to rest/protect Dest

No way Reyna doesn't play in some form

There's also the option of moving Dest to the left and put Weah on the right.
Tony Meola brought that up on one of the Golazo podcasts. His argument was that we'll likely need Weah to get into a rhythm in case we need him in the knockouts when we're chasing a goal. It also keeps Dest, who has been one of our best players, match fit and engaged. You can sub him off in the second half for Arfsten or whoever.
My lineup would be
Freese
Freeman-McKenzie-Trusty (Give old man a rest)
Weah-Berhalter-Tillman-Dest
Mckennie-Reyna
Pepi
Subs would be:
- Pulisic for Reyna
- Zendejas and/or Aaronson for McKennie and/or Tillman
- Wright for Pepi
- Arfsten for Dest

I know this game means nothing for us, in the seeding, or advancing, but shite I want perfection on the record. I don’t even want a draw. I want to remain perfect.
Two sides of the coin are, sitting star players in a “meaningless game” or playing for pride and perfection. 50 years ago this wouldn’t have been a discussion.
In a dream world, we play our starters, and go up
2-0 at halftime. At that point, you can pull Pulisic and company.
My only worry is Turkey already eliminated from the tournament, playing for nothing and injuring one of our guys, because for them it doesn’t matter.

I don't think no one is saying sit star guys, rather they are (rightfully) saying don't risk the dudes on yellow cards.
Perfection in the group would be awesome, but is group perfection worth not having Tyler Adams for the first knockout game because he got baited into a silly yellow card?
frick no.

I agree.
I heard on the broadcast last week, someone mentioned the yellow cards reset after the Group Stage, and after the Quarter-Finals I believe?
So if a player with a yellow played tomorrow, and gained another yellow card, he would still miss the RD32? But after tomorrow’s game the yellow’s reset? I understand why we are sitting the 4 guys with yellow’s if that’s the case.

Yes. The yellow card accumulation resets after the group stage, meaning if someone picked up a yellow in this game and the round of 32 game, they wouldn't be suspended for the round of 16.
But if you get two yellows in the group stage, you're suspended for your next game regardless of whether that's the third group game or the first knockout round game.

Sit the yellows in the fricking press box. I can’t take a chance with Adams getting a yellow for yelling something from the bench
Give Pulisic all the time he needs to recover from his calf injury. If he’s truly good to go give him 45-60 minutes. Rest Ream’s old legs and give Trusty the start.

I will be filing terrorist reports against the entire federation if Tyler Adams steps foot on that pitch tomorrow.
He's the most important player in the roster for our counter press and we have zero like-for-like replacement for him.

I gotcha, that makes sense.
I would like to see Weah and Reyna get serious minutes tomorrow. I think Weah scores tomorrow if he gets the start.

Jurgen’s response to a question about whether the guys with yellow cards should play tomorrow shows just how dumb he is.
He was condescending and said that it would be foolish not to play the A team tomorrow, at least for the first 50-60 minutes. He seemed genuinely perplexed that people thought the guys with yellow cards shouldn’t start.

I saw that too and all I could think was "You started Brad fricking Davis in the final group match against Germany"
