apparently I don't fully understand the offsides rule... someone explain to me how the Dortmund winner was offsides? A Malaga player was in the net

I think they were talking about the equalizing goal but I'd have to see them again, my feed was going to shite towards the end.

Why does everyone think Santana's goal was offside?

Defender from Malaga was the last guy in between the goal line and Santana because the goalie went to contest the shot. Therefore, Malaga defender essentially becomes the goalie and the goalie became the last defender. Ball was hit by Reus(???) don't remember and the ball went to Santana in an offsides position. He was off by a few inches.

I'm wondering this too... apparently the controversy stems around Malaga's GK

if I understand the rule now... there needs to be 2 defenders behind an offensive player when he's passed to or receives a deflection... 1 of which is normally the GK

well Malaga's GK had taken a step up to stop the 1st attempt at goal so Santana may have been behind the GK... and w/ only 1 other defender back (the Malaga player laying in the net)... he could've been considered offsides

yeah it's the second to last defender. a goalie is a defender. that's what confuses people who didnt play soccer (i assume, sorry if im being douchey). so in this case, the goalie was that second to last defender and santana was behind him.

this happened during some game in the world cup and i looked like a god explaining it to people on facebook. it was fun.

Eh, I played a lot of soccer and watch it but that rule is easy to forget.

yes I'm relatively new to soccer so I'm pretty much learning on the fly... I like to think I'm getting a grasp of the rules and strategy... but hey... you learn something new everyday right?

I've watched a good amount of soccer and I really didn't know the GK was considered a defender in that rule. You never really see it as an issue either so maybe that's why.
