Looks like Borussia Dortmund has bought a promising young winger.

Maybe a Pulisic replacement and not competition?

Borussia Dortmund have signed Marius Wolf from Eintracht Frankfurt on a five-year contract, the club announced on Monday.
Wolf, 23, scored five goals and provided nine assists for Eintracht in the Bundesliga last season and also played a pivotal role in Niko Kovac's DFB Pokal winning side, including a 3-1 success in the final over Bayern Munich earlier this month.
Kicker reported last week that Dortmund would activate a clause of around €5 million in the versatile 23-year-old's contract.
He will bring more competition for Christian Pulisic and Andrij Yarmolenko in right midfield but can also cover various positions on the field such as right-back.
"Marius Wolf is a very promising player with great potential," Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said. "The combination of his footballing quality and his excellent mentality

So according to what I've been reading, after the VVD mess last summer and Barca trying to hijack Keita, our new policy will be like we saw today, quiet as frick until it's official (which I like)
That being said, reading things about our next two targets are Fekir and Lemar, plus a GK

Fekir is amazing, but he has an attitude problem and doesn't cope well with pressure.

d that was TWENTY FOUR days ago. If the rumor has any accuracy, we "agreed to terms" with Fabinho more than 3 weeks ago, so "losing" Jorghino 10 days ago doesn't fit that narrative.
No, I understood your point. I'm saying our journos are that far behind (or purposefully being behind) in reporting it. I wasn't trying to indicate the timing matched up exactly, only that at some point we switched in them and the rumor eventually made it out. I mean, the two choices are:
We were working two choices simultaneously and found out long ago that Jorg was going to City and focused on Fab - our journos got the rumor out later.
OR -
We're playing 6D chess, lumped ourselves onto the Jorg rumor train to detract from any Fab rumors that developed while simultaneously hoping to inflate his price all while never really going in for him while also secretly getting the player we wanted.
Geez..saying all that, I'm not sure which I prefer but both make us look pretty good. I'd love that we would be targeting option 1a and 1b at the same time go switch quickly. Or that after VVD and Keita that we're placing a priority on making things happen quietly.

I think this is definitely happening... We've learned our lesson and are handling our shite quietly

Which is why I said (again, only if the rumor is accurate) the Jorghino stuff could have all been smoke.
I don't think the Jorginho stuff was smoke. I think if Pool could have gotten it done quickly and without competition from City you would have gone through with it.
Jorginho/Lallana/Keita/Ox/Fabinho is a stacked arse MF. And that's before adding in lesser guys like Hendo/Wijnaldum who are still good in their own regard, but IMO, a level below the first group.

Jorginho and Fabinho are two very different players... yes, they both play as #6s, but Fabinho is a much better fit, if we are still going after Fekir..
Actually, those two would complement each other well, playing together in the midfield..
Anyway, adding Keith and Fabinho, with Fekir and the other midfielders we have, give us a bunch of different options with formations

Honestly, Im just pleased with the level of player we are going after... It's amazing what a couple of years of sustained success and a run to the uCL final will get you. Plus having Kloppo and his style of football... We are a very attractive place to be right now..

Will Fekir is essentially play the role Coutinho played? I don’t remember Cou playing on the wing or the actual midfield much, but I could be wrong and you guys know better.
I don’t know a ton about Fekir, but I do know he isn’t someone who offers much in defense and thought he was somewhat similar to Dybala in that his best position was more as a shadow Striker.

Coutinho played a lot on the left wing for us and was starting to transition into the #8 role this season (he did play more as a 10 under BR at times). Many believe the #8 is his best long term position..
I see Fekir as more of a #10/second striker type...
If you keep our front 3... with Keita and Fabinho in a double pivot behind Fekir... on paper that is potentially outstanding... obviously, they need to gel and play together.. dont see why it won't work...
We're really only a CB and GK away from an elite starting 11... still need to address depth for the front 3 though.. but add Alisson and one of any of about 50 CBs in the world and we'd be in great shape...

Well I’d hope they’d do more playing than flirting. ;)

Yeah, I mean a lot of people, at least on the City subreddit, are liking the team building Klopp is doing.
If ya'll sign Oblak, Fekir and a backup winger who can take the load off of Mane/Salah I think the title fight will be very interesting next year. Not sure a CB is a must have, I thought Lovren had been fine since VVD was signed, but I guess City has four solid choices there, so if you want to compete you'd want at least 3-4 to feel comfortable throughout the year.
Posted on 5/29/18 at 7:14 am to McCaigBro69
You need to understand though as an LFC supporter you have to say that you need a CB every year!!! Actually, I agree with you, I think Lovren is the player he was at Siton with VVD. I think Matip could bounce back and you can move Gomez to his natural CB position giving you a solid 4. I think you finish Fekir, a winger for back up and you spend big on a GK. I think we can challenge City but they leave no room for error. We cannot draw as many as we did this year against weaker teams parking the bus. I just think Pep and Klopp are building the two best teams in England. There is also a sense of mutual respect there between those two managers. I can tell you as an LFC supporter I do not dislike Pep or City, I just wish they could loan us a few bucks every now and then.

Supposedly this was a big thing for Fab. Showed that we were capable of competing with the best.

Lovren is still crap... DO NOT be fooled...
If we're going to upgrade, let's do it all over the pitch...

It cannot be understated how incredibly influential that run was for us. It put all of Europe on notice that we're building something exciting, something attractive, but we aren't quite there yet. If I watched our UCL run and then loss in the final, and I'm an attacker, I'm thinking "wow, I want to play in that system." If i'm a defender, I'm thinking "wow, I could be the piece that takes them over the top."
Incredible to have this signing done without a single alleged twitter ITK or journalist smelling a whiff of it.
Having both he and Keita for a full preseason, along with VVD, Gini, Milner, Robertson and the kids should be hugely beneficial.

It sounds like Roma has set the price at £79. After Salah I think they stick to their guns. So what do you guys think? I think you get either Allison or Oblak (Oblak for me) and you fork up half of your Coutinho money. After VVD I am all for paying for established, top shelf defenders.
Posted on 5/30/18 at 2:05 am to JackVincennes
I remember the outrage when City bought Ederson for £35 mil last season
1. Atlético are reportedly trying to up Oblak’s buy-out to €200 mil.
2. Since when did Coutinho sell for 200 mil? If you actually got Oblak, that’s 2/3rd’s of those funds gone. Now it could be worth it. We all saw how Ederson elevated City this year. But I think it will almost surely be Alisson to allow for other reinforcements.

The reported buyout for Oblak is £88mm, though Ive seen some suggestions that it could be in the £75mm range...
Lets say £88mm.. If Roma is really asking £79mm for Alisson... I pay the extra and get Oblak..
The new contract/buyout is irrelevant at this point...
Lets face it, those are the only two slam dunk GK buys IMO... Anything else and Id rather keep Karius and focus on reinforcing other areas of the squad..
