Non-Americans would think these thoughts far more retarded

This is comparatively a safe space

I'll one up you with the loser football/basketball fan that tunes in to the World Cup every 4 years and refuses to enjoy the spectacle for what it is to instead offer up changes to the sport because they don't like something they don't understand.

You may get your wish.

There is a new interpretation of the offside rule (the Wenger rule, after former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger) where offside will not be called unless the entire attacker’s body is offside when the ball is played. If there is any crossover, they will be deemed onside.

The Canadian Premier League, I believe, is trialing it now.

My kit and boots will have to go back in the closet behind my cleats and jerseys. Sad day

No one is laughing at the OP about him wanting to change the rule home slice.

The laughing is from him thinking that change will suddenly make more Americans not think soccer is a gay, commie sport. There will always be something to complain about soccer by the casual sports fan, they largely don't like it because it's viewed as gay and America sucks at it. And that's fine, the sport not being well-liked in America does not put a damper on my enjoyment of the sport for what it is.

Much like pregnancy; you're either offside or your not.

Whether it's a toe, a knee or daylight, offside is offside. Any change brings subjectivity into it and worse defisions

Making any rule less technical absolutely helps any fair weather fan out, regardless of if they are American or not

And lol acting like he wouldn’t get jumped by soccer gate keepers for any suggested change to offsides. It’s an immediate bat signal to attack.

Hockey does it fine and they have VAR too

As long as any part of your body is behind the defender you are on. Zero subjectivity as well. Just on the opposite end on how soccer does it

It makes more sense. As an offensive player I can more easily judge if I at least have a part of my body onsides vs having to judge is the entirety of my body onsides

You'd be surprised considering many on this board are welcoming the impending change to the rule.

It's nothing new what he offered up, just the way he offered it up was laughably clueless.

I would rather fix the Iran situation. It happens far to often off set pieces and I think it’s completely against the spirit of why offsides exists

Not to parallel to hockey but the blue line exists where offsides doesn’t matter anymore. Maybe have the 6 yard box like that? If you were onsides when you first are in the box you can’t become offsides at any point after it

I love soccer. Have played my whole life.

I don’t think the spirit of the offsides rule is that it should be measured with lasers down to the centimeter

I also don’t have a fair solution to offer and it seems like most people are fine with it, so I understand why it is the way it is. I just think it’s kinda stupid.

It’s the same rule, just more strictly applied.
