Just not good offensively. We need more runs off the ball, runs into space, and in general better movement. We need guys like Pulisic to step up. We need a fricking striker. We need something coherent up top. We just look lost once we get past the midfield line and it’s frustrating to watch.

He might be the most realistic choice at that point, but I really want to see him succeed in a league that’s better than Austria, where you have massively better talent than anyone else and are expected to steamroll the league.

Because you run too great a risk of really bottoming things out and it's just not worth it.
If we were in Costa Rica's position right now, yeah, but for as shitty as we have looked in large parts of The Oct, we're still in 2nd place and would have to take it to a whole other level of sucking to not qualify.
As sad as it is, the bar for this program right now is to just qualify for the World Cup and then figure it out from there. After 2018, we just don't have the luxury to tinker and assume we will qualify.
What's funny in Gregg's case is that he can't even use the "CONCACAF is hard to qualify in" line that has been repeated ad nauseum (including me) over the last 5 years or that it takes time to build up a program and have them play a particular way. Canada is proving both of those narratives wrong.
