Soccer Board Newbie Question - Youth Soccer

First and foremost I am absolutely new to the board so if my post is out of line / wrong place please don't be shy.
It appears the board is heavily focused on the varying leagues on a global stage therefore my request many not be appropriate.
NOW--To my brief question/request for feedback. As a dad who never played soccer and up until recently hasn't had a great interest in soccer I am kind of lost. I have a son who plays U8 here in Thibodaux that has shown a great interest in playing (has played TSA for past 3yrs) and a want to play as much as he possibly can. So as anyone would do I hit the Google and started looking for camps and such.
I have read, even on this board there are many defined coaching curriculum varying clubs adopt. Long and short is this: The camps I've found available during his break are-- LA Fire Jr is hosting as camp as well as the Baton Rouge SC. They are both on the same days so we need to pick one.
I have absolutely NO idea or have any knowledge of either club. Any feedback as to what camp may have more value added would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Unforunately, I have no input on which camp you should choose (although I am sure both will be great).
Honestly, the best thing you can do is buy your son a goal and 4 or 5 soccer balls for the backyard for Christmas.
Side note: I am extremely jealous of Thibodaux now having its own league. We used to have to drive to Raceland to play every weekend when I was young.
And although I'm not the biggest fan of Rick Rosado personally, he really has done a fantastic job of growing the sport in Thibodaux.
I think we're finally starting to see the results of the League too with ED White making consistent deep runs in the playoffs.

He's 8. I'd pick the one that you think he'll have the most fun at. I would imagine that both of those camps will be working on fundamentals for their 8 year olds. At this point, it is about keeping him interested so he can keep growing as a player.

Thanks folks. I completely agree with everything that was offered. Simply stated for someone who has literally zero soccer background my main interest is that he continues to enjoy the sport and is taught the fundamentals correctly. The BR camp promises Santa will make an appearance ??
The Thib league is very well ran and last I heard we have over 600 kids playing across the age groups.

Make him dribble, trap and shoot with both feet.
Do all drills with both feet. The younger the better.
Lastly, make him practice with both feet til he is comfortable with either foot at any time.

I appreciate all the feedback.
Looks like BRSC Winter Camp will have a TSA player in attendance.

If you don't have a wall on your house build him a rebound wall. Play with him in the neighborhood. Get his friends playing with him in pickup games. Show him the joy of the game. There are all sorts of videos on youtube for drills kids can do to improve.

I can only speak to what I did in Birmingham as a kid, but I personally looked forward to the UAB soccer camp every summer up through middle school. We got to stay on campus and learned a lot while we were there. They offered “courses” by position, skill level, and age. I don’t know LA geography off hand so I’m not sure if a college summer camp is an available option. Good luck in your search.

I remember UAB having a top 25 program at one point. I wished they put money in that instead of football.

UAB is a decent D-1 program. They just built a new field last year. Very nice. Mike Getman does a good job there.

Thanks again everyone for all the feedback.
Currently he plays pretty much everyday @ school as they allow the like grade kids to play during recess and their P.E periods.
Using the back side of our house to kick against so for now that will serve as the "rebounder." to the the up coming WC.

Your best bet will be to have him in the club with his friends. This will keep his interest level in the game.
Take the opportunity to talk to coaches and directors who are connected to the sport. State what you have posted here and ask for their help. They can point you in the right direction as far as camps, and at his age, it is probably best to focus on those camps where his friends will be in attendance.
This is the age (although it seems young) where you should gently push him if he is really interested in the sport so he can advance with other kids his age. Keep it balanced with other things that are important to your family, keep him competitive while teaching him the sportsmanship that only a good parent can, and do everything you can to keep it fun.

They do. Went to one of their long summer camps, forgot to sign up for the keeper camp (position at the time) and ended up winning the "MVP" of the outfield players

Either camp, I'd probably do the outdoor camp at BRSC for my boy.
So, are you close enough to get him into the Blackhawks FC in Houma? They field one of the best teams in the state generally and have, at least for my anecdotal situation, superior coaching to TSA. My boy's 11, and we travel all over south LA playing clubs...if you can get him in in the 9U or 10U program with the Blackhawks...DO IT.
The parents are noticeably different as well, but you expect that when you see dedication to the game it takes to raise these little ballers. This may be out of line, but as an outsider you are lucky to be so damn close to this program...I'd move him over from TSA if you can...and I say that simply from playing the A teams from both squads regularly.
I drive WAY further than that to practice.

1 college in all of Louisiana has men's soccer.
Title IX screwed over the sport.
