I think a lot of the celebration was because of the entire situation. Having a considerable amount of players hurt plus another key guy taking a break and they were able to come out of that dump with a point for only the second time ever. Not to mention an article about how people are unhappy with the team came out less than a week before the first game. I think it was more than just "Yay we tied Mexico" but more we just went through a bunch of shite and got 4 points in 2 games one of which is our toughest opponent away from the states.

Also could be a going away party. These guys have been together for like 2 weeks now and won't see each other again for a while :nohomo:

qft, this is what I was going to post. But RandySavage wont see it like that, it's too black and white for him.

look after the Honduras match I'm just glad Mexico didn't drop 3 goals on us.

Which they really should've.

Agreed, but our players shouldn't be feeling that way which it's clear they did.

From a fan's perspective I think that's what it comes down to. If we trot out our best XI and tie and think we're happy but still pretty critical of spots where we should have scored.

Yeah, if half of our pool wasn't hurt or sick, we wouldn't be so joyous. However, under the current circumstances, this was a great result.

You say not too long ago we were better than Mexico. But even our two best teams, the 2002 and 2010 WC teams, didn't get a point at Azteca during qualifying. And bc of everything, the murderous hostility of the fans, the smog, the altitude, the head, Azteca is a much tougher place to play than Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge

Your version of history does not compute with reality.

23 WCQ in Azteca = 1 point. At which time would you use the word 'Superior' to describe us?

When would that be, considering it had been 14 years since we had gotten a single freaking point there?

El Tri's record there is probably the best of any country. Azteca is probably the best home field advantage in all of sports. They made the final of the 1970 World Cup and only lost because they played arguably the best team of all-time.

Glass, they participated because they were the hosts.

I don´t think they won a match.

Won 2 in group play and lost to Italy 4-1 in first round of knockout.

From 2000 until now the US is 11-3-5 vs Mexico. And from 2000 - 2009 10-2-2. So yes, it wasn't long ago we were superior to Mexico at soccer.

I know Azteca is a very tough place to play and obviously have stated it was a good result. Personally I just think the team and supporters should expect more and not celebrate a tie as much as it has been celebrated.
