8. Columbia
9. Mexico
10. Belgium
11. Uruguay

Brazil, Belgium, Uruguay are ranked too high IMO. Mexico's x factor is their goalie. If he can keep up those kinds of performances, I don't see why not they couldn't be at #9.
Chile is too low.
Chile is too low.

Regardless of how Brazil has played, you rank them first because of the homefield advantage.
NONE of the teams that have played better than Brazil so far would be favored in a game against them.

I would have us as favorites against Uruguay sans Suarez, Costa Rica, and Mexico as well as a push against Chile.

I believe that kid had Ivory Coast in the QFs and didn't have the US advancing.

How the heck are we below Mexico and Suarez-less Uruguay?

They miss Benteke a lot. I'm not crying for them.

Belgium hasn't conceded a goal in the normal run of play.
They started slow each match but they easily outclassed their entire group.
Chile is too low. Argentina has not impressed me - they are a 1 man team right now.

As they should have. Pretty fortunate to not have to play any south or central american sides in group play.

Tier 1: These are more or less the favorites. Any of them could win the World Cup. All of these teams have world class players. These teams have looked either good or great in group play. All of the potential Golden Ball (and likely Boot as well) candidates are on these teams.
1. Brazil*
2. Colombia
3. Netherlands
4. Germany
5. France
6. Argentina
Tier 2: Very outside shot at winning the whole thing. Chile is unlucky to get matched with Brazil. Each team has world class player(s).
7. Chile
8. Belgium
9. Uruguay
Tier 3: Better than the bottom tier, but not much of a chance to go much further. Neither team has a world class player.
10. Mexico
11. USA
Tier 4: Congrats on making the knockouts (or quarterfinals in the case of Costa Rica/Greece). You probably overachieved or got lucky. No world class players - Shaqiri is the best on these five teams.
12. Costa Rica
13. Switzerland
14. Nigeria
15. Greece
16. Algeria
*Brazil is only one because of the home field advantage due to the refs. I would rank their level of play fifth (after France).

I agree they were fortunate, but this is the World Cup. shite doesn't always go chalk. The only goal of group play is to advance to the knockouts. Belgium got 9 points in their first WC in ages (in climates not rivaling Belgium). Doesn't matter who they are playing - that is solid work.
Belgium is a good side. They gave zero fricks vs South Korea resting all of their stars, they get red-carded 45 minutes in, yet still controlled the game and beat as desperate team with 10 men.
The talk of "Belgium's shitty play" has been greatly overstated.

Should be higher: Germany, Netherlands, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, US, Switzerland.
Should be lower: Brazil, Argentina, Belgium, Mexico, Uruguay (without Suarez).
Not saying those teams should be higher or lower by a lot. Just a couple of spots.

1. Brazil
Very questionable win against Croatia, struggle against Mexico, win against a terrible Cameroon team

2. Argentina
Beat Bosnia-Hezergovina by 1, Iran on a last-minute Messi goal, and Nigeria by 1.
vs.

4. Netherlands
Beat the defending champs and top two team in the world by 4, struggled against Australia but were still able to get the win, and beat a solid Chile team by 2 goals
But sure... the top two teams are better. I could have included Germany, France, and Colombia who have also looked much better than Brazil and Argentina. I'm not saying Brazil and Argentina won't end up in the finals, but there is no way to me that those two teams have looked the best so far. I'm also impressed that Costa Rica is somehow behind Belgium.

While I've got the U.S. ahead of Switzerland (No. 13 below) based on the Swiss' defensive weaknesses, I can't put them above Uruguay based on collective talent and play thus far in the tournament.
Guess he doesn't think our offense has the bite of Uruguay's.

That is a really bad list.
1a. Germany
1b. Netherlands
3. France
4. Brazil
5. Messi
6. Columbia
7. Chile
8. Costa Rica
9. Belgium
10. Mexico
11. USA
12. Uruguay (Without the chomper)
13. Greece
14. Switzerland
15. Nigeria
16. Algeria
With Suarez move Uruguay up to 9 and everyone down a spot.

I think a Messi Argentina is on par with Germany the best team.
-Neymar will be neck and neck with Muller for the Golden Boot. They had a bad game against Mexico, but besides that look good.
-Netherlands had a hard time with Australia. I'm usually a really big Dutch supporter, but despite Robben, I still don't see this team winning it all.
- Chile and France have both looked good to me? I like both of them, but France will advance further just by luck of the draw.
-Colombia look good, but it's hard to judge them off of their group.
The rest I think is pretty self explanatory. Maybe I have the US a little high, but would fancy our chances against a Saurez-less team, and still think were better than Costa Rica.
