Don't enslave thousands of migrant workers and there wouldn't be such an uproar. The whole corruption angle is simply the avenue by which this is going to get shutdown. The driving force, though, is the gross human rights offenses. Doesn't help that they're fricking with the european schedules by moving the WC to November, either.

Ok, this should be on the OT and not just the soccer board. This is. Pretty damn big issue.
It's just speculation at this point. I think it will take some time before anything official is announced.

This. It's starting to look likely but there's going to be some punches thrown before it gets stripped. Qatar isn't going to just let this thing go.

It is not going to be t5hat easily done, contracts were signed and close to one hundred billion spent with an estimated 150+ billion earmarked still to go. Unless there are specific stipulations in the contract that allow a change of venue it is not going to happen. As of yet there has been no concrete proof Qatar cheated. This would be tied up in court until far after the WC was to happen.
On another note thousands of migrant workers have been dying in the Middle East every year for centuries, why do we all of the sudden care?

Because the most popular sport in the world is involved.

I see that you're new to the daily mail...
Take it with a giant grain of salt. And by giant I mean like an entire fricking mine. I'd honestly believe you saying you had a friend in the know over those douche bags.

Qatar reportably to be stripped of 2022 World Cup
*reportEDly
Reportably is not a word.
I understand that The School Up North doesn't have strict entry requirements, but at least try a little.

It's about damn time too. This World Cup controversy has to be the single biggest travesty in the history of sports, with an estimated 4,000 people being dead by 2022 getting it ready for the event. That's higher than 9/11 and the most deadly construction project in the Middle East since building the fricking pyramids.
that's also a reason to keep it there... if the world cup is anywhere but Qatar it will feel like it was stolen

It's not a question of caring all of a sudden. It's the fact that you should not be REWARDED for your deplorable financial system. FIFA as an entity should not be giving an event that brings that much focus and tourism to a country who cannot care to protect its own people more than that. No one is suggesting we go in with the military and overthrow their government, but we damn sure shouldn't reward that kind of system.

I would have to believe FIFA leaves themselves an out when these contracts are signed. In fact, on ESPN FC the other night, one of the guys (whose name escapes me, but I think is one of the more reputable ones) stated that proof of corruption is grounds for FIFA to reopen the vote for the World Cup. So, if there are documents found by the Swiss or us or someone else that proves officials were bribed, FIFA supposedly has the right to strip them of the World Cup. Interestingly enough, the other main reason FIFA could strip them (according to the same source) is if there is political interference, which is basically FIFA's attempt to stay as a politically neutral entity, no matter how superficial. One of the ExCo members (I think from France) has already publicly admitted his country's Prime Minister instructed him to vote for Qatar. So right now, they already have grounds to reopen the vote, according to that report.
ETA: The reporter in question was Gabriele Marcotti.

If you keep the equal revenue sharing for all FIFA members in place, they should not have any complaints.
Otherwise, the organization will now need to focus on crushing corruption. And we don't need World Cups hosted by nations that either build new stadia in stupid places where they become junk heaps (Brazil) or have no fricking business whatsoever hosting the damn thing (Qatar).

i don't know if i'd take the world cup from their people if they've started to prepare for it.
if they obviously can't afford it or whatever, then move it, but otherwise you're punishing people for what their politicians do
if Americans died doing construction on things like World Cup stadiums and then we're not gonna have it, it'd be like they died for nothing.

You think they'll let the slaves (most of whom are not from Qatar) watch the World Cup?

The World Cup was already stolen when Qatar was awarded it.
