GK: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Nick Rimando

Defenders: Omar Gonzales, Steve Cherundolo, Timmy Chandler, Matt Besler, Fabian Johnson, John Brooks, Geoff Cameron, Demarcus Beasley

Midfielders: MB90, Jermaine Jones, Mix, Graham Zusi, Ale Bedoya, Landon Donovan, Sacha Klejstan

Forwards: Josmer Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Terrance Boyd, Aron Johansson, GAM

My preferred lineup for next summer would look like this:

Dempsey is perfect cutting inside on his right foot and making late, poaching runs into the box. He was in his prime in england when playing on the left, and not trying to do to much like he is now as our no.10; Donovan looked superb for the U.S. centrally in the gold cup, and he is our best playmaker and no.10, him and Deuce could make interchanging runs in the final third underneath Jozy. With Dempsey tucked in, this allows Fabian Johnson to blaze up the left flank all match. Zusi on the right stays wide, provides width, great service to Jozy and has a great engine, he puts in serious work on the defensive end. the right side would have a great work rate with Zusi/Dolo.

Besler's pace, distribution and ability to read the game make him a lock to start. I'd go with Omar, but John Brooks starting a game or 2 in the WC would be nice.

If we need a spark off the bench around 65-70', bring in AJ for Zusi, slide Donovan wide right and play AJ underneath with Zusi. Or take Jones out, let Bradley sit deeper and let Mix play an attacking midfielder role.

Other than Shea for Klejstan, I'm with you. I think Brek brings more potential as a true left winger sub that is more useful than Sacha, who likely never plays in Brazil.

As a big fan of Brek, I would love for him to somehow play himself onto the 23 man roster for Brazil, he has real game changing ability.. he's still young, he can be special, but I think he's got to gtfo of stoke

Yeah, Gold Cup & these friendlies aside, there is no chance that Jurgen calls up Brek to Brazil if his situation remains as it is.

JK has made it emphatically clear that the team he will take will be regular club players, regardless of talent.

And despite this he keeps calling up Shea.

For the secondary Gold Cup and these two friendlies...

The only issue I have with these rosters is that most of you are picking only 7 midfielders and 5 forwards. That is a very thin midfield, especially when we're not considering Donovan a forward.

Bacon, Jozy, and Dempsey are guaranteed a spot if healthy. I think GAM is pretty close. Therefore, I think we should probably leave Boyd and Hercules Gomez off the squad and bring in 7 midfielders (8 including Donovan).

Jones, Bradley, Donovan, Mix, Zusi, and Bedoya with his recent play are all locks for me. I think my last two would be Joe Corona and one of Brad Davis/Josh Gatt/Brek Shea/Jose Torres/someone I am overlooking (I am not overlooking Kljestan though, I just don't think he is very good). Anyone of those would be a greater help than a guy who isn't going to play for us as the 5th choice forward.

When it comes to goalkeepers, I think we are all on the same page. Howard, Guzan, Rimando.

Defense: Besler, Omar, Brooks, Cameron, Beasley, Johnson, Cherundolo if healthy, and Evans/Lichaj would be my picks. If no Cherundolo, then both Evans and Lichaj, I suppose, although we could also just bring one of them and keep another central defender like Goodsen. I would be fine with that, as Fabian Johnson and Geoff Cameron could both play right back as a starter or back-up.

IMO if you bring Boyd you are wasting a spot

The same way Beasly and Evans became defenders - they've played there for us

Pretty ignorant of you, IMO. Jurgen has made it abundantly clear he's a winger.

It's right up there with posters clamoring to see Bradley play as a CAM. It's just wishful, albeit silly, thinking.

You mean its ignorant of me to think the guy that has played both left and right back for us in this calendar year, and as recent as last September, is not a defender?

Ok...

ETA: I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to point out that Jed thinks/thought, Zusi was best suited for the Jermaine Jones ( Scroll Down). Now that was ignorant.

Zusi, at the vey least, plays as a CM for his club team. Can't say the same for Fabs.

Also, I find it quite humorous that you took the time to read through my post history.

Fab has seen time at both full backs with US and Hoff.

Actually the only reason I remember that was because cwill and Sheep took shots at me in another thread because they thought I was the one who stupidly suggested Zusi there.

Admirable try though.

Focus. Let's get this back on track.

To me my toughest calls were between JAB, Beckerman, and Shea. Left of JAB. Feel with Omar, Besler, Goodson and Cameron we are covered there. Now if JAB comes in for us in the next 6 months and plays lights out, then I drop Goodson. I feel like Beckerman and Shea both have late sub roles that work well in certain situations
