Shea has to go on loan and get some run before I can take his potential selection seriously.

I somewhat agree - but Shea is a little different. He's probably the one player we know (though it looks like Johansson is as well) in the pool that can change a game in 15-20 minutes.

There's certainly value to that. Your roster is not a compilation of the 23 most talented players - it's the best 20 pieces (and 3 GKs).... the best toolkit, if you will.

I'll say this: if we're in our last group game, with 30 minutes to get a goal to advance (like the 2010 Algeria game or Ghana in 2006), there's no American player (capped or uncapped) I think I'd rather see get up off that bench than Brek Shea.

And I say that with a pretty poor opinion of Shea's game overall.

This sums up very well my stance on Brek

Agreed that he has the talent to be that all-important super sub, my point was that I don't think he even makes the 30 man prelim roster if he is still in a similar club situation come May.

JK has made it emphatically clear that the team he will take will be regular club players, regardless of talent.

If he really wanted to send a message, he should have left Brek at home and looked to expand his player pool to include similar players.

I think that Juergen is more of a pragmatist than he lets on. I'm sure that Brek will get a look, regardless of his club situation. It's not like his ability to run recklessly in a straight line is going to be seriously affected by not playing.
