When he made his decision, he obviously had no idea of his future injury setbacks. What he saw was a promising future where he would play for top clubs around the world while being a prominent striker for the Italian fricking national team. Not sure if some of you guys can comprehend this, but Italy is lot better than the USA at soccer. He made a business decision, and has had very bad luck ever since.
I'm going to continue to post because I bring much more to the table than you do when it comes to smart soccer conversation, and because I like it here.

Ehhh if he loves America in every aspect other than soccer, as he claims, the smart move would've been to choose the USA and become a Donovan or Dempseyesque figure in our setup. He would have way more usa endorsements and brand recognition, not to mention probably a better salary. Landon makes more than him, and both Bradley and Dempsey make more than double what Rossi does.

Yeah, people always get confused by the Italian contract numbers that are post tax since employers and not employees pay tax.
Rossi's salary isn't bad considering his new contract was a bit low and also heavily based in incentives for appearances due to the injuries. I think it's about $5 million a season in comparative US pre-tax numbers.
If not for the injury, it would probably be around $8 million.

BTW, what's it like being an American living in Italy and speaking the language fluently (I presume)? Because in France people were pretty blown away by the fact that an American could speak French, and I'll admit I speak it pretty well. Also, if you don't mind me asking, what do you do over there? And are you at Cherundolo levels of integration (ie, married a foreigner)? Because if I were to move back to France, I'm 99.9% sure I would end up marrying a French girl.

I love Italy. I lived there full time from 1997 until 2009, mostly in Rome (with a year in Genova and every summer in Cagliari). I had a record shop in Rome for 8 years.
The last 5 years I've been back and forth between Roma and New York as I work in music and there was just more work in NY.
I'd love to move back permanently one day though hopefully somewhere a bit more more laid back than Rome.

Do you have an Italian passport? That would be neat. I have no idea how I would go about opening my own business in America, let alone a foreign country. That's just nuts (but awesome). I bet they respected your opinion on music because, you know, MURICA. Except for a few shitty French rap/pop songs, most of the music in France is American. Same with the TV shows. Those people love our TV shows holy shite.
I know very little about Italy in general, but having visited Verona I could see that place being kind of chill, by Italian standards. Bradley seemed to like it. Gorgeous, too.

Not even close to true.
His team mates seem to really like him quite a lot and defend him to the hilt in the press-- just listen to Buffon, De Rossi or Pirlo when asked about him. (or club team mates like Kompany, De Jong, Kaka, Muntari, Yaya Toure).
I'm sure all his team mates get frustrated with his immature antics at times but it's really hard to find a single one who seem to not like him.
The vast majority of Italian fans love Balotelli for the NT.
You'll never see the English news say a thing about the huge ovation he just got in Italy's last WC prep friendly but if 10 right wing nuts chant something against him it'll be posted and printed into infinity.
I would say that opposing fans of any team Milan plays really hate him when he plays for Milan but you could say the same thing about Totti and non Roma Italian fans.
