Who cares. Women's sports do not exist in SEC to make money, but to build prestige.

Well earned and well deserved.

The season ended sadly as a dud, but the turn around from LAST season was incredible. If they can keep the 2025 to 2026 trajectory into next season, Alabama will be among the 2027 elite.

Do not be distracted by making Nationals last year, qualifying from Tuscaloosa as a low seed with a season high vs coming in a top seed on the road and falling short, this team was night and day better than last year's.
happy 2000s fan:

I love college sports more than pros since professional sports fans are really just cheering for a jersey, the players are mercenaries from all four corners of the earth.

How many New York Yankees are from New York? How many Arsenal players are from London? Now I ask you, how many Alabama players are from Alabama or Ohio State players from Ohio? There you go.
I can truly say in all sincerity... I wish for nothing more than a second NIT Championship for Auburn next year. In fact, I hope this is the beginning of a long Madison Square Garden dynasty.
Thank you. Auburn and Bama have not yet attained the top of an NCAA mountain where the Lions of North Alabama have sat upon twice in 1979 and 1991.

What are, "Things Demonstrably Untrue" Alex?
Head Coach Jeff Graba just resigned from Auburn Gymnastics, which is insane since he's not old, the only reason the program is even relevant AND currently has signed the #1 recruit in the 2027 class.

Make Broome and Suni Lee co-ADs... they're the last folks who gave Auburn anything to be happy about.

Madonna Thompson will always be our biggest miss in Alabama Athletics which sadly will go unresolved as she is approaching her 60s already.

Thompson should have been given the keys following Lindsey Smith's disastrous tenure in the late 2000s. A winnless SEC team would have gladly welcomed a JUCO winner.

Wendell Hudson's retirement would have been the next best, she'd still have enough time to build (basically Curry's tenure).

MAYBE if she'd left the comfort of Shelton to a D1 coach or a Top 25 assistant, we could risk it now, but not as is.

Top 10 is about as high as you can get where I don't think there's any argument.

Higher and it gets dicey, another Final Four or higher would solidify Top 5 at least.
FINAL final note

Next season, Alabama brings in the #2 ranked recruiting class in the nation.

Final note. Future is bright if Ashley can keep this trajectory.

The team only loses on star in Gabby to graduation. starters Jordyn Paradise and Natalia Pawlak were career role players, tough to replace on their individual events, but nothing devastating.

Turksih international Derin Tanriyasükür and veteran Karis German can add a lot next year as well as a healthier Love Birt.

Alabama is bringing in a LARGE recruiting class next year. Based on their performances at Junior nationals, remember the names: Avery Schlichting, Addie Sarisky and Ella Kate Parker.
Looks like Alabama's 2026 will be a flip of 2025.

Last year we came out flat and finally began peaking at the end, enough to fight off missing SECs and eventually making Nationals.

This year we busted out on fire and then ran out of steam by March.

Ashley's a young coach in her 4th year.... ever, so a big part of her journey will be putting together the complete package. Or even just peaking the team strategically.

End of the road to legend Gabby Galdieux, who, like Morgan Dennis before her, put up multiple 10 worthy floor routines, but was always denied by at least one judge.

Change of the guard here as Karis German is the only Dana Duckworth era athlete with another year, if she wants it (missed this year to injury).

(the REAL losers of tonight however, are the Utah Utes, who will miss Nationals for the first time....ever.)
Technically not really a choke on vault. It's been the weakest event all year. The hope was that we "survive" vault. We really couldn't.

Kudos to the team for throwing out the fall, but 9.7s from Gabby and Jordyn was lethal.

All comes down to today.

Alabama has one of their best seasons in a while and the universe (and the tournament) bestows on them the Regional of Death.

Utah is a Top 5 team. They lost their best gymnast early in the season and their scores brought their average down to a 12 seed, but now they're at full strength.

UCLA is UCLA, Top 5 and lead by a US Gold Medalist.

Alabama, I think we can safely say, peaked last month. The last 5 meets, they've scored like only a Top 10 team. To send one of these teams home, the Tide will HAVE to magically pull out a mid season performance. A 197.5 or better is likely the minimum to fight for Forth Worth. So for everyone watching, that's an average of 9.875 per routine.

There is no room for error... but that applies to everyone. Utah and UCLA know if they blink, they gone too.

Above average mixed bag so far in the sports I follow, VB and GYM.

Lindsey Devine (Volleyball) Nightmare. Nothing improved, she bailed after 4 seasons of nothing.

Rashinda Reed (Volleyball) is proving to be a slow burn. Cellar of a program that she's improved steadily every season.

Ashley Priess-Johnston (gymnastics). Up and down. She did well enough with the previous regime's athletes and then plummeted last year. This year has been a good rebound and they're #5 in the nation heading into the tournament.

Alabama has an off night, for this seasons at least, with a counted fall on beam and a low on vault...... and still gets the win vs Kentucky.

No rest for the weary, the Tide take to the road to play Illinois on Sunday.
So what's the deal with the improvement?

Looking on RollTide.com, it's the same coaching staff of Murph, McMahon, Braud and Arbor that have been since 2024. Are they just finally gelling this well, is the freshman class just that good? Am I missing something else?
