Sucks for him. He would possibly be on his way to a second WC this summer had he chose the Stars and Stripes. Now he'll be in his 30's before he gets another chance for his first.

That and Italians are by far the most xenophobic people I've ever been around. Lived in Milan for a spell...such a miserable place filled with miserable people.

Yep. Southern Italians are stupid and lazy. Heard that many times over.
ETA: Never heard them say southern Italians were too black, but I know they definitely don't like those with darker skin.

I lived with two girls from Palermo. They were really sweet, and one was a Milan fan. The educated Italians aren't as racist, but holy shite the football followers of that country are some of the worst, most xeonophobic people on this planet.
ETA: Yes, they were pretty dark.

I was around plenty of educated Italians. It was evident what they thought about those who were not Italian. You don't even have to ask them. Just converse with them for a little while and they'll be sure to tell you. Then again, Milan is a different animal all together.
