In the wee hours this morning the Olympics will start with the womens tournament and then the next day will start the mens.

Schedule of Matches

The USWNT is the huge favorite to win the Olympics but lacks many top teams in the world due to the qualifying process and only 12 spots. The mens tournament is expected to be between Brazil, the previous winners, and Spain who is bringing 6 players from the Euro semi-final team.

Men's Rosters

Supposedly NBCOlympics will stream all the games but not sure if you need to pay or if it requires a tv package.

It’s not sad bc most people don’t give a shite about the men’s tournament, other than Brazil during the last games but that was expected

If the Women’s side get knocked out I’d get a chuckle, especially bc it’s ultra watered down with some of the best women’s sides not even in the tournament

I guess it's not for everyone but I prefer international matches vs club matches so its better than nothing and theres sometimes a standout like Messi and Neymar who get to compete and showcase their skills on a large stage.

I love international soccer, but the Olympics just kind of blows. It doesn’t help with everything going on with the women’s team and the men’s team shitting the bed in qualifying

A majority of football nations don’t care about it and often send weaker youth sides

That Messi side was Argentina just saying we gonna win this shite

As for Neymar LMAOO

That was Brazil trying to get redemption for the WC for their fans at home. He had already played on a much larger stage than the Olympics prior to that

Women's tournament lets me cheer for anyone playing the USWNT and I'd like to see Spain or Argentina win the mens. Twellman did have a good point a few months back about how the best Olympic teams are usually from the best footballing nations and the US needs to make qualifying a priority. Since 1984 either Brazil, Spain or Argentina has been in every final.

The US should always qualify, but I think the importance some media members have been putting on the Olympics is way overblown

I never said it was larger stage than the WC. It's a weird tweener that is below WC, Federation, etc. but I bet several of these squads are easily better squads that some of these sides in the Gold Cup.

Has a country ever actively rooted against their team?

This might be first, hope they lose.

LMAOO well most the time the best footballing nations send a B/C u-23 side by their best players in those age beakers have been in let’s say the Euro U21 or the youth world cups

Twellman needs his head checked, the US team beating a B/C squad doesn’t really tell us anything

That Argentina team was not the normal for this tournament

It’s a tournament that generates little buzz and it’s not talked about much

Saying they are better than the little resort islands like martinique isn’t much

But no I’m not taking a B/C squad u-23 with 3 over age players over a full on senior team from the the gold cup.

Enjoy the tournament for what it is and we might see some diamonds in the rough

But stop trying to oversell what it actually is
